A knock at my bedroom door stirs me from my endless daydream. "Your highness," I hear Lois' voice echo through the door. "The King would like to see you downstairs in the dining room."My eyes roll and I stare up at the ceiling. I love how my own father is referred to as The King rather than my dad when he is mentioned in a conversation, always ordering power even inside the castle when no one outside can hear.
He is a narcissist.
"Princess Everly?" Lois calls again, knocking for the second time. "Are you in there?"
"Yes," I call out. "I heard you for the first time."
"He said it is rather urgent and to meet him right away." Her voice is apprehensive and I realise that she will get the wrath of it if I don't follow my father's orders. And I know it's not her fault, she's just doing her job.
Yet another person who is turning a blind eye to my current situation, that or my father is spreading false lies to cover their tracks. Anything to keep me here and away from the outside world.
For what reason? I have no idea.
My eyes close in defeat and I swing my legs over the edge of my bed, reaching for the cardigan which is draping over the back of my desk chair. I slide my arms through the thick and comfy material before tugging it close to my chest.
