The non-disclosure agreement was also a dead end. Every possible loose end is tied up with another statement, every corner and every inch covered to protect the family. If I break my agreement, I can end up in prison for up to ten years. Jeopardising the royal family comes with some serious punishment, one that I fear to take if I can't guarantee Everly's safety. As much as I want to get Everly out of here, there isn't a lot I can do to help if I'm locked away in jail. I'll be branded as the villain and Richard will continue prowling around like a saint.
I could tell there was disappointment in Everly's eyes as we went over it for the third time. She's holding on for a miracle, for anything to get her out of this hellhole. But everything is against her right now.
When I think back to it, the King worded things so precisely that it made Everly seem like a soiled child before I even really got the chance to meet her. He put those thoughts into my head and swayed my opinion on her. Just like he does to everyone who comes into this house to work for them.
I'm the only person who has seen through her father's bullshit and seen the damage that he has caused underneath. The damage he has made to a young girl who is suffocating every day by being locked up in here, unable to pursue a life she is entitled to.
I know I'm not the most gullible person in the world but when you're told something by the King, someone who is very powerful and important in British culture, it's hard not to believe them. These people are setting an example for our country and you don't want to accept that they're doing anything wrong. People look up to them as role models, British angels.
