ACT ONE

[ INT. KEITH APARTMENT - NIGHT, BEFORE DAWN]

We find Keith tangled up in his sheets. Still half-asleep, he finds the phone and answers.

KEITH

Kogane.

[As music plays Keith opens a drawer. Inside is his badge, a man's watch, and a simple silver necklace with a ring on it. Part of his morning ritual, he slides on the watch. He takes out a silver necklace and slips it over his neck, tucking it away under his shirt so it is completely unseen. He takes out his piece, checks his clip, and straps it on. This is not a super-slick gearing up moment, but rather the banal routine of someone who does this every day.]

[EXT. STREET - MORNING]

Keith steps out of his car... all cop. Pidge approaches holding a cup of coffee. They handed it to Keith.

MALE OFFICER

Would all workers please clear the construction site?

PIDGE

Why can't they find bodies between 9 and 5?

KEITH

Well, early bird gets the collar.

PIDGE (chuckles)

Yeah.

[Lance emerges from the crowd. Pidge sees Keith react.]

PIDGE

He was here before I was.

LANCE

Oh. Finally. You are here. You're gonna love this.

[Keith and Pidge follow Lance to the site. They near the crime scene, moving through the small crowd of workers who look on.]

HUNK

Come on. Show's over. Active crime scene. We appreciate your cooperation.

[They come upon Shiro, amidst the crossbars, examining a body - the body of the woman we saw in the opening image. She's wearing a gown and above her, tangled in the rebar, is a ripped, tattered garment bag.]

LANCE

Awesome, right? My first cold case. Come on. It's a little funny.

SHIRO

Not so much funny as true. She's frozen solid.

KEITH

What was the temperature last night?

HUNK

Mid-40s.

SHIRO

It wasn't exposure.

PIDGE

Site's active. Boys tell me there's no way she was here last night.

KEITH

She's melting.

LANCE

Maybe we should be looking for ruby slippers.

KEITH

Yeah, while you're at it, why don't you look for some flying monkeys? Maybe they left her here. (to Shiro) So what do you got for me?

SHIRO

There are pieces of plastic on her body from the garment bag.

KEITH

So she was inside the bag.

SHIRO

Mmm-hmm. Other than that, it's gonna take a while for her to thaw. I can tell you, she hasn't been here long. Maybe a couple of hours.
