ACT ONE

[INT. McCLAIN'S LOFT, LANCE'S OFFICE - NIGHT]

Lance, Keith, Pidge, Hunk, Allura, and Rosa are sitting around a large, round table, playing Texas Hold 'Em. Pidge finishes dealing out two cards to everyone.

PIDGE

Alright, everybody, last hand for the night.

ROSA

Oh, phooey! It's only... (scoffs) It's not even midnight.

LANCE

Some people have jobs to go to in the morning.

ROSA

Oh, my son, the working stiff. Alright.

[after a cursory glance at her cards]

ROSA (CONT'D)

Ugh. Phooey. I fold.

PIDGE

If you don't mind me saying, Ms. M., you fold a lot.

ROSA

I just don't believe in stringing along a bad hand. Why waste time?

LANCE

Actually, Mother's game isn't really Texas Hold 'Em. It's strip poker. Keeps things humming along, if you know what I mean.

ROSA

Well, frankly, I prefer strip because even when you lose, you win.

[Rosa winks at Keith and everyone smiles. Hunk tosses in chips]

HUNK

Raise twenty.

ALLURA

Call.

[Allura tosses in twenty. Keith checks his cards. He has an Ace and a King of Spades.]

KEITH

Make it a hundred.

ROSA

Whoa!

[Keith throws in his chips.]

PIDGE

A hundred bucks?

KEITH

Man up, bro.

[Allura calls.]

PIDGE

Really? I'm out.

HUNK

This slop.

[Hunk tosses his cards in defeat]

KEITH

What about you, Lance? You're already in for the blind. Not scared of a little action, are you?

LANCE

"Action" is my middle name.

[Lance throws in his chips.]

ROSA

Ahhh. Don't worry, sweetheart, he's bluffing. Whenever he blinks too much, it means he's got a lousy hand.

LANCE

Mother.

ROSA

Well...

PIDGE

Alright, here we go.

[Pidge turns a card and then flops three cards. Two Sevens and a Two. Keith realizes these cards are useless to him, just as Lance, who has been dealt a full house, taps a finger on his cards eagerly.]
