THE TRIO THAT TURNS INTO A DUO

THE REASONS PERCY WAS BROUGHT ALONG at all were because of his talent as a fighter, and his ability with the water. So if things went really south, he could help Arya so neither of them would wear out.

The monster came much faster than ever expected. In an ideal world, Charles would be almost done with the bombs and Arya and Percy could fight the monsters side by side for a few minutes until the three of them could launch themselves over the rails of the ship and into the safety of the ocean.

The plan was not to have Percy offer to distract the monsters by leading them in a different direction, they were supposed to all stay together. Arya wanted to argue that when Percy told them his improv plan, but Arya knew there was no time. With a goodbye and good luck, Percy was out the door.

"I'll cover you then." Arya said as she stepped in front of Charles who's back was turned to her as he began to wire the bombs to his watch.

"Arya, he's going to be fine."

"I know. But that doesn't mean I like it."

It was a good minute before the monsters started to come back to the engine room. It was only a few at a time, and nothing hard, only a telekine or a dracanae, things Arya could take down in hundreds. The fights were easy, because they weren't really fights. They were a few stragglers who had gotten past Percy.

At one point she came face to face with a demigod and like always, the face of Ben, replaced the boy that was actually standing in front of her. This time she wouldn't kill him, instead she disarmed him and hit his head against a wall to make him pass out, he would be fine. Then she slugged his body onto the far wall and waited for more enemies.

It was like this for minutes, behind her she could hear Charles working meticulously. The wires took precision and one wrong move, they all went off. That's why she brought him along, he was the only man for the job that could stay this calm under pressure.

If he could just finish wiring, then Arya would run with him up to the rendezvous point and they would get out fine.

Then, the boat lurched to the side throwing both Arya and Charles into the left wall. Charles cursed before pushing off and going back to his work. Arya knew that had to have been Percy, and he only used his water powers in times of desperation. He was in trouble.

"How much longer?" She asked Charles.

"Another minute or so."

"Think you got it covered here. I'm gonna go find Percy?"

"Yeah. Make sure you don't do anything stupid okay? Get you and him to that helicopter pad, I'm not detonating without you two off the ship."

"We'll get there. Good luck." She said as they locked eyes, he nodded.

"When we get back, I think we deserve to get a little drunk don't you?"

Arya laughed, she knew what he was talking about. On one of their raids the Stolls found alcohol and had been stashing it away so no one found out about it. Charles, Arya, and few others had joked about stealing it, but none of them had been as serious as this one.

"It's a plan."

With that, Arya was out the door. She wasn't sure exactly where Percy was but she figured she'd follow the monsters running up onto the main deck. She didn't have to stop and fight many things, and if she did, she was able to take them down in about two seconds. The demigods took a little longer, but it was a small price to pay to make sure they didn't die.

Once she got up to the main deck, it didn't take long to find Percy. First she ran past the giant crab body, which Arya was impressed he had taken down, then she found the exploded fountain, a classic Percy. Finally, she skidded to a halt when she realized what was in front of her, the glowing scythe and the person who was holding it.

Luke.

Except he wasn't Luke, he was Kronos as told by the hauntingly bright golden eyes on the boy. Arya still though it looked odd to see him holding a weapon other than a sword.

She felt dumb. It took her a little longer than it should have to process the fact that Kronos and Percy were fighting. It was going to be harder to get off this ship than they thought. She just hoped Charles was safe.

Percy kicked Kronos in the chest, but it didn't do anything. In retaliation, Kronos swung his scythe and Percy tried to deflect it. Kronos was too strong and the scythe was only redirected a little bit and it still ended up cutting Percy in the arm. The cut caused Percy to yell out and fall to the ground, Arya didn't know what was going on. The scythe must have some magical power tied to it.

Then she hit herself in the head. It was a magical titan scythe, it was a literal soul reaper. The small cut Percy had was enough to put him out of commission, but it was still better than him being dead.

Kronos laughed. "A poor performance, Percy Jackson. Luke tells me you were never his match at swordplay."
