MEET THE PARENT

ARYA WAS ABLE TO HOLD IN HER THROW UP. Barely. As soon as they emerged on the other side of complete darkness Arya started to gag, and Nico lightly shoved her away from him, nausea causing her to fall to her knees. He let himself fall in exhaustion shortly after. Percy was quick enough to keep him upright.

"Thanks for that." Arya said after swallowing down her own dinner.

"Shadow Travel is rough." Percy said.

"No. I loved the shadow travel. It was Nico shoving me that I wasn't a fan of."

"I said... No... Throw up." Nico said between breaths. Arya looked up at him to see he had practically collapsed into Percy's arms, and suddenly Arya felt bad for being mean to him. She got to her feet and walked over to him, putting two fingers to his neck to check for a pulse.

"I'm okay," he managed, rubbing his eyes.

"How did you do that?" Percy asked him.

"Practice. A few times running into walls. A few accidental trips to China."

"Gods Nico." Arya breathed as she stood back up and started to tighten her gauntlets.

Mrs. O'leary had already found a warm spot to cuddle up for a nap. It didn't look like she was going anywhere anytime soon.

"Are you going to take a nap too?" Percy asked.

He shook his head. "The first time I shadow traveled, I passed out for a week. Now it just makes me a little drowsy, but I can't do it more than once or twice a night. Mrs. O'Leary won't be going anywhere for awhile."

"You should have left me home. You should have told me it was going to be this hard for you." Arya fussed while her fingers expertly fumbled with the strings.

"No, I needed you both here, now stop worrying about me like I'm a child."

"You are a child." Arya stated.

"And technically so are you, so I don't want to hear it." Nico retorted. He was becoming sassy as he got older. Arya liked it until it was pointed at her.

"So we've got some quality time in Connecticut." Percy intervenes "What now?"

"We ring the doorbell," Nico said.

Arya looked in front of her at the gorgeous white colonial house that stood before them, it was even more breathtaking and homey than both the picture, or the way Luke talked about it. The amount of nature alone would be enough to explore a person's entire childhood. She hated that Luke had such bad memories here.
