A Recap....
There was a particular verse which the pastor quoted that caught Joan's attention which was that -'Women should always be submissive to their husbands' and it didn't really settle well with her, as she thought of how she has to be submissive to her husband at all times.
Well she just have to abide by it whether she likes it or not as it was part of the duties and obligations of a wife in a marriage.

But joan became calm again after she heard the pastor also saying that - "a man should love and respect his wife" Joan thought in her head; at least it won't be only her who had a role to play in their marriage, although she didn't mind the love part because she was quite sure she wouldn't be needing his love in this marriage because she felt that she would be okay by herself and moreover the love her ex-boyfriend had showered her with would be enough to last her for a very long time - probably till forever so of course she won't be needing any of his love.
The pastor finally finished his preaching and now it was time for them to say their vows and exchange their rings.
They both stood up and went to stand at the altar, right in front of the pastor.
"Do you DAMIEN NOAH WHITE take JOAN NAOMI KNIGHT to be your lawfully wedded wife, to be by her side and support her, both in sickness and in health in hard times and in good times, in riches and in wealth, till death do you part" The pastor said while looking at Damien.
Damien looked at the pastor and then he looked at Joan with so much admiration in his eyes for her.
"I do" Damien said without any hesitation while joan was looking down but she felt his gaze on her.
The pastor then gave Damien the ring which he was supposed to wear on Joan's hands.
Damien took the ring from the pastor and then he reached out to hold Joan's hand slowly lifting it and bringing it closer to him, that was when Joan looked up at him wondering what he wanted to do with her hand and then Damien slipped the ring onto her ring finger and he looked up at her while bringing her hand towards his lips and then he placed a kiss on it.
Just with that simple act of his, Joan felt her heart skip a beat, she didn't even know that she was in a trance until Damien dropped her hand and the pastor began to talk while facing her.
He repeated the same things he said to Damien and then turned to look at Joan while waiting for an answer.
Joan thought about what the pastor had said and the word - 'Till death do you part' kept echoing in her head. Which type of a vow was that, so i have to stay stuck with this man till death do us part, no it won't work. Joan thought, forgetting that the pastor, the congregation and Damien were all waiting to hear her answer.
