Jenny's POV
It's been weeks since James left and her hope is still strong but she needed to think about Ella just in case.
"Ella sweetie, have I ever mentioned about your aunt and cousins?"
They traveled to the city where Ella was intrigued with everyone around and how busy life was here. They stopped at the big house where again Ella was surprised a house could be so large.
A maid ushered them in as she rushed to get her sister.
Ella saw an elegant woman emerge from the hallway with perfect blonde hair and shiny clothes.
"Jenny darling."
The woman gave Jenny an empty hug but Jenny accepted it.
"Is this my darling niece?"
Jenny nodded while Ella smiled and hugged the woman. Madonna stiffened and just patted the small child on the head calling for her nanny.
"Take the girl to play with my daughters Nina."
Ella looked back and Jenny just smiled and nodded her head.
Madonna walked into the parlor with Jenny right behind.
"Well, this was unexpected. This is how I get to meet my niece?"
"Life got in the way, I sent a letter."
"I wasn't going to travel to the bums to see a baby sister."
Jenny wanted to argue but she needed her sister's help and sometimes keeping her mouth shut was the way to get it.
"So what brings you out here Jenny?"
Jenny fiddled with her hands begging the heavens that Madonna will agree.
"Madonna I need your help."
Jenny has never asked her sister for anything and she was nervous for the first time. Madonna just smiled.
"With what? Do you need money?"
Jenny tried her hardest not to scoff or roll her eyes.
"No...I'm sick and-"
She started to cry a little catching Madonna off guard.
"If something happens to me before James returns‐"
"Returns? He left?!"
"He went off to find some more doctors. But two already confirmed what I already know."
"When did he leave?"
"Three weeks ago but-"
"He's not coming back, Jenny."
"He promised!"
"He lied! That's what men do when life gets tough, they leave."
Jenny couldn't stop the tears having the voices telling her that Madonna was right. But all she could do was believe he'll be back.
"But he will-"
"If you truly believed he would, you wouldn't be here."
"I came here for a backup. Please, Madonna."
She scoffed looking around to think.
"What do I get in return?"
Jenny was surprised to hear this. Shouldn't she just agree for the sake of a sisterly bond?
