Defence

The next days I mostly spent alone in my room to recharge my social battery. I was really thankful that Jay respected this as always. He just poked his head in to tell me when he was going out or anything. The rest of the week was full with his cousin moving in with Jake. Everyone helped and soon it was completely done. Heeseung had decided to treat us to a meal to thank us for our help, so I stood in front of the mirror this Saturday evening and tried to make myself look good.

"Aren't you done yet?", Jay complained from the door frame. I haven't seen him at first and flinched, resulting in me smearing the mascara unto my eyebrow. "Now I'll need even longer", I shrugged and calmly wiped it off. He sighed theatrically and came over. While fixing his hair in the mirror next to me, he glimpsed over to me. "Why the hassle? You already look good. One might think you are trying to impress someone", he stated. I blushed and he furrowed his brows, catching unto it.

"Who is it?", he grinned. "Oh, stop it", I complained, "A woman just sometimes wants to look good, okay? I don't need a reason except for being one of those unreasonable, unexplainable female creatures." He laughed softly and nudged me: "Don't be salty. I'm just saying that one could get the hunch. And about the 'wanting to look good'-part – Well, don't worry about that." He left the bathroom again and I let go off a breath. After all, how should I have told him about the fact that even though it probably wasn't more than a revived crush, I did kind of dress up for his very own cousin?

We were currently still waiting for Jungwon and Niki. Jay went inside to rush the guys. Sunghoon and Jake had went over to the other side of the street to take some photos of the setting sun. Meanwhile, Sunoo and Heeseung had watched me attempting the hopscotch drawn on the street while chatting casually. I felt it before I heard it. Female instinct, I guess, the something every woman has and is better off listening to it. I jumped out of the hopscotch and approached the others as they came into earshot.

Both guys turned their heads to find the cause of the commotion. A bunch of seemingly already drunk people walked into our direction. I suddenly regretted deciding for the skirt as I got aware of how one of them looked at me. Sunoo stepped forward at the exact time Heeseung pulled me behind him. I put my hand on Sunoo's arm and pulled him into the safe zone behind Heeseung. As he looked at me, I shook my head. I didn't want him to get involved if it could be avoided. He was too... innocent.

The drunkards slowed down their pace and eyed the three of us. They were three people as well. I instinctively held on to Heeseung's arm as I saw Sunghoon and Jake hurrying over out of the corner of my eye. The drunkards realized too and picked up their pace again. We watched them pass us by and leave again. I let go off a breath as they were out of sight. "Scary", I mumbled, smiling reassuringly as Sunoo started to calmingly stroking my back. "Don't worry, they're gone already", Heeseung smiled and pulled me into a side hug. I nodded and sent him a thankful look. That's when the door behind us opened again and Jay, Jungwon and Niki stepped outside. "Finally got them to move", Jay announced, "Let's go, I'm starving."

--- Heeseung's POV ---

With tilted head I watched her walking in front of me. Jay had figured that something had happened while he had been gone and right now, she was telling him, Niki and Jungwon about it. I let myself fall back more to reach Sunoo's level. His behaviour earlier made me curious. I didn't really know him yet, but he didn't seem to be the fighting type like Jay was. I wouldn't have been surprised if he just would have tried to protect her – every guy with his mind together would do that, especially if a girl looked as worried as Katy earlier did. But the way he kept looking at her and the way he had looked at me when I had hugged her was giving off different vibes.

"She's quite special, ain't she?", I asked him, nodding towards her. "Never met anyone like her", he agreed, "But that's normal for most people. After all, we're all different." I nodded. "Since when do you know each other?", I went on. "Since kindergarten. We kinda grew up together", he answered. "Wow, that's impressive. So you basically know her better than anyone except Sunghoon." "I guess." "Ever thought of asking her out? It would be the typical love story, wouldn't it?" "You saw her reaction too, didn't you? She wouldn't even let me defend her." "Well, that doesn't mean she can't be interested in you." Sunoo took a deep breath. "Believe me", he sighed, "She isn't at all interested in me."

--- Katy's POV ---

"Hurry up you two", I shouted over to Heeseung and Sunoo. They had fallen back quite a lot over the last meters. "They'll catch up eventually", Niki reassured me. "What in the world are they talking about?", I wondered. He shrugged. "Don't know. Why would you care?", he asked. "You know I am really curious", I waved it off and changed topic instead. But I couldn't shake off the feeling that Niki had a hunch of what they were talking about. He was a good observer. Not that I was too stupid to catch on things, but I seemed to be missing an information here. Was it about earlier? "Hey, Katy, are you even listening to me?", Niki complained, waving his hand in front of my face. "Huh?", I replied confused, "Oh, sorry, what did you say?" "Seriously, let the guys talk whatever they want to talk about", he chuckled and nudged me. I smiled apologetically. "I said we're here", he then repeated and pointed to a restaurant in front of us. "Oh, I didn't even realize", I mumbled. "Yeah, you don't say", he laughed and opened the door for me.
