I looked at Jay a bit defiantly. He stood in front of me, his arms crossed and head shaking disapprovingly. It already was the third time today that I listened to "My heart will go on" and still emotionally immersed in the movie, I always sang along. Jay had endured it patiently. Until now. "I can't hear it anymore", he complained. "I already said sorry and that I will only lip-sync from now on", I gave back. "You put me through this song three times already. Three. Times.", he replied. "Sunghoon had to endure worse from me", I shrugged. "Yeah, but I am not Sunghoon." "What do you want to hear from me, Jay? I did say sorry." "How about 'I'll make up for that by doing the grocery shopping today?'" I sighed deeply. "Jay, how about I make up for it by doing the grocery shopping today?", I repeated in a monotone voice. "Perfect idea, almost as good as mine usually are", he answered over-enthusiastically. I rolled my eyes and jumped down from the kitchen counter I had been sitting on, smiled at him ironically and got the shopping list that was hanging on the fridge. "Any extra wishes?", I asked. "Tell Heeseung that he has to apologise too", he smirked at me. I raised my eyebrow. "You can be glad I already like you enough to not throw you out of this apartment", I sighed theatrically and nudged him. "I like you too", he announced and sat down on a chair while I wandered to my room to get a bag and my wallet.
I didn't get far though. I heard a loud noise in the kitchen, shortly followed by Jay swearing. I rushed over to him, staring at him with wide eyes as I got aware of the wound right over his temple. Blood oozed out of it and I gasped. "What on earth happened?", I asked shocked while getting a tissue and hurrying over to him. "I wanted to make some food and the damn pot fell down on my head while I tried to get it", he hissed. I carefully put the tissue over the wound, causing him to suck in a sharp breath yet again. "We should get you to the hospital; it seems like they have to stitch you up", I declared and handed the tissue over to him. "But I have an important meeting today and it was so hard to get the chance", he complained. "I don't care and you shouldn't either because if you don't, it will be even harder to attend", I shut him up with a tone that made him realize it was no use protesting.
"Now, you can't obviously drive and I don't want to leave you out of sight-" "You're being overly cautious again", he interrupted me. "Anyone else you have in mind?", I asked, ignoring him. "Heeseung", he mumbled poutily. I blushed due to the sheer mention of his name but ignored it and nodded. "I'll call him", I said, not daring to look at Jay who probably had the biggest smirk glued to his face. "How bad is it?", I asked while waiting for his cousin to pick up. He shrugged. "Could be better but not as bad as you might think, I guess", he answered. I smiled softly. "Don't forget that I'm the clumsy one out of us two", I joked. He chuckled. Finally, I heard Heeseung's voice. "Hi Katy, what's up?"
He had rushed over really fast and now we sat in the car, Heeseung driving carefully, yet not too slow, while I stayed in the back seat with Jay, providing him with new tissues every now and then. If Jay had pain, he didn't really show it. I patted his arm and with a teasing grin told him: "You're a good boy. If you survive this without crying, I'll buy you your favourite candy." He stuck his tongue out to me but then mumbled: "You better." I laughed softly and nodded. I would. Inside the hospital, they placed Heeseung and me in the waiting room while taking Jay along. I sat there, fiddling with my fingers. I didn't like hospitals. Heeseung gently took one of my hands in one of his, putting his free arm around me to pull me close. "It's nothing serious", he told me softly. "That's not it", I shrugged, "I just feel really nervous in hospitals." "You don't have to. I am here with you. I won't leave you", he mumbled and somehow that worked. At least a bit. With a sigh, I let my head sink on his chest. He started to hum a soft tune, making me dozing off with the calming melody. "What song is this?", I mumbled sleepily. "Oh, nothing. Just something I came up with", he answered. "I like it a lot", I replied. "Thanks."

Twenty minutes later, Jay came back, a big plaster on his head. I frowned. He had looked better already. "I have ten more minutes until my meeting", he sulked. I sighed. "Is it that important?", I wanted to know. He nodded firmly. "It's about a possible job offer for my dream job", he explained. I looked at the clock. "Where do you have to be?" He named a place near our apartment. I bit my lip. It took about thirty minutes to get there. "Do you have their number?", I asked. He nodded. I held out my hand, demanding the phone while instructing Heeseung to get the pills Jay was told to pick up on the way out together with our little patient. "Meet you at the car", I said while dialling the number Jay had searched up for me.
After two rings, someone picked up. I hadn't yet prepared what I wanted to say, so I just sticked to honesty after introducing me. "I'm calling on behalf of Jay Park. It's about the job interview", I began, "My sincere apologies but would it be possible to wait for Jay a little longer? He had a small accident, nothing serious but therefore he is still at the hospital. We're about to leave now but we won't make it in time nonetheless." Silence for a second, then: "Why isn't he calling himself?" "He's still in treatment." Well, kind of at least. "This better ain't a joke or some excuse." "I promise it isn't. If you wait just a bit longer for him, you can even see the stitched-up wound." More contemplative silence. I decided to go in offensive. "Why hesitating? It would be a bummer to not give him a chance even though it's not his fault he's late. He couldn't possibly have a Plan B for having to go to the hospital. I assure you that you won't regret it. Jay is hard-working and quite intelligent. Do you really want to miss out on him? He has enough offers." I didn't know about the last part but the guy at the other end of the phone gave off a vibe that made me sure it would work on him. "Twenty minutes more at max", he gave back annoyed. "Thank you so much", I said cheerfully, "You won't regret it."
