Chaeyoung struggled against the heaviness of her limbs, determined to leave the confines of her hospital bed and shuffle towards the window. Two days of stagnant confinement had left her restless and uneasy. Leaning her hands against the cool glass, she stared out at the expansive sky, her thoughts scattered and unresolved. The sudden click of the door handle jolted her back to the present. With hesitant movements, she turned around, only to be met with the unsettling presence of the most contemptible face she could imagine.
"I never wanted to see you" Chaeyoung turned back to the window "Who allowed you in?"
"Do I need permission to visit my sick daughter-in-law?" Mr. Min retorted, his usual wicked smile curling his lips.
"Get lost before I call the security" Chaeyoung said through clenched teeth, struggling to contain her rising anger.
"What are you going to tell the security? My father-in-law came to visit and I want him out" Mr. Min taunted, his tone mocking.
"How about we try?" Chaeyoung challenged defiantly.
"Save your energy, Chaeyoung-shi. I'm here asking about my son. He's nowhere to be found. Did you do something to him?" Mr. Min's accusation hung in the air, tinged with suspicion.
"I could ask you the same. I underwent surgery, yet he hasn't bothered to visit me," Chaeyoung shot back, her voice tinged with hurt and indignation.
Chaeyoung's words unsettled Mr. Min, despite his attempts to conceal them. His first instinct was a concern: what if Suga was plotting against him? Selfish thoughts crept in as he contemplated how to find Suga and put him in his place. "Are you sure it has nothing to do with you" Mr. Min said "You didn't do anything foolish to get rid of him"
"She didn't do anything foolish. I'm here, and I'm perfectly fine," Suga's sudden entrance interrupted.
"Oh, we were just speculating," Mr. Min's face brightened. "Well then, I'll leave since you're alright."
With lingering tension, Mr. Min exited the room, leaving a strained atmosphere between the couple. Chaeyoung, who harboured disdain for both men, felt a small sense of relief that Suga had finally shown up.
"Where were you? Everyone was asking about you," Chaeyoung said, turning back to the window.
"Were you one of those asking?" Suga raised an eyebrow.
"Stop trying to act cool and tell me where you were," Chaeyoung lashed out.
"Alright, chill. I had something to take care of, and then I came," Suga replied defensively.
"Something more important than my surgery?" Chaeyoung looked at him with disappointment.
"You never told me about your surgery, Chaeyoung-shi, so why are you expecting so much from me?" Suga's annoyance was palpable.
"So why are you here? What brought you here if I didn't tell you?" Chaeyoung walked towards him.
"Because I heard about it. You didn't bother to let me know, but Nayeon did. Happy now?" Suga retorted sharply. "And in case you forgot, you said you didn't want to see my face, but being the priceless guy I am, I'm here to make sure you're fine." He spoke each word with intensity, then turned towards the door, but paused when she asked.
"Wait," Chaeyoung called out, attempting to follow him but stopped by a pang in her side that made her wince. "Why do you look pale? Are you okay?"
"I think you should worry about yourself, Mrs. Tenacious," Suga remarked, guiding her back to the bed.
"Don't avoid my question," Chaeyoung argued.
"Don't tell me what to do," he helped her settle onto the bed before leaving abruptly.
Outside, Suga sank onto the nearest bench, feeling drained. He glanced at Hajoon beside him, waiting for him.
"That woman is a pain in the butt," Suga managed to say with a small smile. "One moment she's cursing me out, and the next she's asking if I'm okay."
"It can't be helped," Hajoon chuckled softly. "You've clearly fallen for her."
