Hajoon knocked gently before entering Dowan's office. They had both been swamped with Chaeyoung's case lately. Dowan, who had decided to seek Suga's assistance, had been unable to reach him recently, which left him uneasy. However, Hajoon's visit brought a glimmer of hope.
"Have you found him?" Dowan inquired anxiously as Hajoon entered.
"Of course, he involved himself in some headaches, so he needs to lay low for a while" Hajoon explained.
"What kind of headache?"
"It's a bit too personal, I can't share"
"You can't, but you will" Dowan insisted, his gaze demanding yet innocent. "Look, I haven't been able to visit Chaeyoung after her surgery because I know she'll have questions, and I don't have any answers."
"you're her lawyer for a reason" Hajoon chuckled "You're tenacious, just like her"
Hajoon took a deep breath before deciding to confide in Dowan, who was left wide-eyed and speechless. He blinked several times before stammering out a response.
"You-- you can't be serious!!" Dowan exclaimed in disbelief. "Chaeyoung will be beside herself when she finds out."
"That's exactly why she shouldn't find out. You can't tell her any of this," Hajoon cautioned, placing a finger to his lips.
"Alright, and oh, by the way, can you keep an eye on Jihyo?" Dowan requested.
"That's cliché, Dowan-shi" Hajoon grimaced "I was wondering how you haven't noticed her all this time"
"What do you have on her?" Dowan asked.
"Jihyo is officially Chaeyoung's biggest enemy. I saw her with Mr. Min yesterday, so it seems she's allied herself with him," Hajoon revealed.
"I'm not even surprised" Dowan scoffed "Now we can pay Chaeyoung a visit. She needs to be updated"
Hajoon and Dowan drove to the hospital where Chaeyoung is staying and immediately went to her room to find her sulking while talking to herself.
"Am I a vase? Or maybe I'm just a wall" Chaeyoung pouted "Why does everyone leave me here and go"
"Stop complaining, Chaeyoung-ah" Dowan walked to her "Everyone visited you, so stop making a scene"
"You are not allowed to speak" Chaeyoung shouted at him "You didn't bother to visit me and this is my second day stuck between these walls"
"I was busy digging up information. I wanted to bring you news," Dowan winked.
"what is the news?" she asked with a cute, curious frown.
"Well, they're not great news, so don't get your hopes up," Hajoon added as they all sat down "I bet Jeongyeon and Nayeon warned you about Jihyo," Hajoon said.
"Yes, but they didn't give a lot of details," Chaeyoung responded.
"Jihyo is officially your enemy, Chaeyoung-shi," Hajoon explained, recounting the full story to a shocked Chaeyoung. She couldn't believe someone she had lived with for ten years could betray her like this. Chaeyoung felt shattered, struggling to process everything.
"There's worse, Chaeyoung-ah" Dowan added "she's now working with Mr. Min"
"H-how can she?" Chaeyoung uttered in shock "what am I supposed to do now?"
"Just play dumb" Hajoon suggested "if she thinks that you don't know, it'll be easier to read through her"
"Alright" Chaeyoung nodded then stopped to think for a while "Hajoon-shi, can I ask you a favour?" she asked in a pleading tone "you worked for Mr. Min for a long time so I bet you're acquainted with Yoongi"
"Eh? Y-yes," Hajoon hesitated, exchanging a glance with Dowan. "But we're not exactly close."
"He came earlier today. He looked all pale and sick. Do you have any idea what's going on with him?" she inquired, trying to sound casual.
"Are you worried, Chae Chae" Dowan teased.
"Yah! Stop it" Chaeyoung yelled at him "I'm not worried or anything. He was just acting weird... I- I think"
As Chaeyoung was trying to make excuses to show that she isn't concerned, her phone rang making her eyes go wide at the sight of the caller's ID.
"Jihyo unnie is calling" Chaeyoung panicked.
"Just act normal, don't make her feel suspicious" Dowan said.
Chaeyoung answered the call, doing her best not to reveal that she knew about Jihyo's betrayal. After hanging up, Chaeyoung was even more frantic.
"She's coming. She's coming to see me. She's on her way"
"Alright, Hajoon and I have to leave" Dowan said, rising along with Hajoon. "Report to me after she leaves"
