I'm the Alpha's Mate

Chapter 20

I ran as fast as my legs could carry me into the tall dark trees. The moon was my only light as I weaved through the ginormous pine trunks. My mind was a blur, but I only knew that I had to get away. Something was chasing me.

Many times I tried to look back to see what it was, but fear kept my eyes staring ahead. I could hear the beast roar only feet behind me, causing my legs to move faster. The monster got closer and closer and I had nowhere else to run.

Coming up in front of me was the stream from the forest. I could not cross it.

"Yeji!"

"Yeji wake up!" Familiar voices called to me, then suddenly my eyes flew open.

Immediately I was greeted by Ryujin's face plastered with worry. As soon as I opened my eyes she pulled me into her arms like I was on my deathbed. Was I?

"Damn it Yeji you scared the shit out of me!" She panicked and didn't let me go. Ryujin's big arms held me against her bare chest tightly.

It was all a dream. There is no beast chasing me.

A huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders but my body is still shaken up. Mentally I'm awake, but physically I'm still running through the woods.

My grandmother used to tell me that dreams are made to give you a message. Then what's the message from this dream? I'm going to be chased in the forest by a bloodcurdling monster that you find in a child's horror stories?

"You weren't waking up. I didn't know what to do." Ryujin mumbled into my neck. I felt her warm breath fanning my skin and her lips moving against my neck almost seemed like soft kisses.

"Something was chasing me," I mutter. "It was going to take me."

Ryujin pulled away from me only to gaze into my eyes with her own. "It was just a dream, you're safe now okay?" She assured me with sad eyes. She can't protect me in my dreams, and I know that she wishes she could.

"Can we go see Soobin?" I ask Ryujin, changing the subject. I hate seeing Ryujin worried about me. Being the Alpha you grow used to protecting your pack and mate, but I've discovered a place where she can't save me.

"Of course and after we'll go get you some clothes."

After I showered, I borrowed clothing from Yeonjun's mate Mina. I haven't meant her but I really want to. It would be nice to make some girlfriends in Ryujin's pack. Her clothes fit pretty well, she's just a little taller than me, making her clothes a tad bit long.

But it will work for now. Ryujin was waiting for me downstairs so I fled the bedroom and we walked to the pack doctor.

The weather was cool, but will only get colder as winter comes along. There is a thin breeze in the air making my hair blowback. I can almost imagine myself walking along a beach with the waves reaching my toes. I wish there was a memory I could think back to of my family or friends. One where we are laughing, playing, and enjoying ourselves. So at this moment, the breeze can feel like the happiness they brought me, but for now, all I can do is imagine and wait.

I want to replace my bad dreams with happy memories. Hopefully being with Ryujin and her pack can fulfill that. Going to the pack doctors was silent, but not awkward. I took the short time to just take in everything that has happened in this short period of time.

When we arrived at the doctor's, a sudden feeling of worry came over me. Is Soobin still alright? Did he sleep well? I can't help but feel that his accident was partly my fault.

The front room was filled with only a couple of people including one woman sitting at what I'm assuming is the front desk. Everyone in the room was a werewolf, there was not one hint of a human sent.

Sebastian lead me up to the woman at the front desk, she seemed tired and annoyed. Her thick curly hair was pulled back in a tight ponytail and she wore a sassy glare on her face. But right when we got to the front of her desk it all disappeared and was replaced with a toothy smile.

"Hello Alpha, here to see Soobin?" She asked with enthusiasm.

"Yes, is he in the same room?" Ryujin's hand grabbed mine causing tiny Sparks and a feeling of warmth to spread through me. My heart fluttered at the small gesture and I bit my lip. It's so fun to see Ryujin who is a mean strong Alpha holding my hand. It's like Tom handing Jerry a piece of cheese and hoping to be friends.

"Yes, Alpha room ten, and it's lovely to see you, Luna." The woman smiled again. "Thank you." I piped up and gave a small smile back.

Still holding my hand Ryujin lead me down the hallway of doors and opened one. Inside was the same medical room from last night, with Soobin watching TV.

"Hey, Jinjin and Yeji."

"Don't call me that Soobin." Ryujin groaned and sat down in one of the guest chairs. "Where's Dr. Walls?"

"She just left to get my meds." Soobin sighed and sat up in his hospital bed. "So Jinjin, get me out of here, I'm fine."

"Soobin, stop calling me that, and no," Ryujin said annoyed.

"Jinjin come on." Soobin huffed and threw the pillow from behind his back at Ryujin. I couldn't help but giggle at the cute sibling bond they have.

"If I get you out will you stop making bad nicknames?" Ryujin bargains.

"Yup." Soobin agreed.

"Then when Dr. Walls gets back I'll let her know you're fine." Something about this situation makes me feel like they have done this before. But I will remember Jinjin for later when I feel like getting on Ryujin's nerves. I need to remember to thank Soobin for giving me ideas.

"So what do you guys have planned for today?" Soobin asks while getting out of the hospital bed and grabbing some folded clothes off the seat beside him.

"Yeji is going to the mall with Mina to get some new clothes," Ryujin informs Soobin as she changes in the bathroom. Excitement plastered on my face and I let out a small squeal.

"You like shopping?" Soobin called to me through the bathroom door.

"No, I'm going to make a friend!" I cheer and start to think about all the stuff we could do together. Like see movies and have sleepovers! I wonder what you do at sleepovers? Well from the couple of teen movies I've watched you sneak out and go to parties.

Where do you find a party? Don't you have to go to a high school to go to a party? I mean it's not like we would crash some children's parties.

"Yeji? You alive?" Soobin waves a hand in front of my face. When did he get there?

"I think she's just excited." Ryujin shrugs.

"Well then let's get the hell out of here and go make you a friend!" Soobin cheers and heads for the door with a hand up to the sky in a fist.
