Chapter 9

                        Friday: 8:00 PM
       30 minutes before Ethan's party.

Impatience.
That is all I was feeling at this very moment.

I was in my room scanning my closet for the second time. Nolan was already driving over to convince Daniel to let me join them at the party, and pick me up. I don't know how he thought he was going to pull this off, but I'm going to have to be ready for when he tries.
I owned quite a few dresses due to football parties always being thrown in my friend group. I agreed to never wear the same dress twice, but I might have to tonight.
I didn't have time to buy anything new, and I was just praying that at one point I was conservative enough to have something a little more modest.
Usually, the girls and I used Ethan's parties as an excuse to outdo Roosevelt's do-ers. All my dresses were short and very revealing in more aspects than one. I wanted to hide some of my scars instead of flaunting them.
I continued searching and searching when something came tumbling out from the closet. The coat hanger it was on clicked on the ground where my fluffy rug didn't reach.
I stopped moving clothes around and bent over to pick it up.

It was a body-con black dress. It had a small black skirt, with crisscross straps that wrapped around the front of my body. It left my abdomen open but covered my breasts perfectly. My back would be left open too.
I smiled, not knowing where this came from, but going for it anyway. I pulled my t-shirt and shorts off and slipped on the dress.
The cross went over my neck, and I stared in my mirror.
It was definitely not modest, but it hid all the places I really wanted it to.
It was beautiful. It was just what I wanted.

I found a pair of wedged black boots in the back of my closet, and put those on too. I added some jewelry, curled my hair, and started doing my makeup at my vanity.
I was still doing my makeup when I heard footsteps coming from downstairs. They were approaching my door. I didn't revert my eyes from my mirror but shifted my attention anyway.
Just then, my door opened gently, and in walked a very clean-looking Nolan Gallagher.

And my twin brother.

"Bro, I already told you no. It's not safe," Daniel protested.

Nolan rolled his eyes and put his hands in his pockets. Daniel closed to door behind him as they continued to pretend I wasn't sitting right there.

"Dude, you really think I would let something bad happen to your sister if I witnessed it? She's safe with me," he complained back.

Daniel was angrily leaning against my door as Nolan lay down on my bed.

"What's going on?" I asked innocently.

"He really thinks I'm going to let you come tonight," Daniel shot at me. "Let's just stay here the both of us!"
He leaned off the door and walked over to my vanity. He reached down to grab me by my hands.
"We'll watch movies and shit. I don't know, whatever you want to do, Cora," Daniel argued.

"Dani'. She wants to go to the party," Nolan stood up for me.
Daniel looked at me with rage as he let go of my hands.
He examined my outfit and my hair and glanced over to the makeup brush on the vanity. He rolled his eyes as he ran his hand through his freshly gelled hair.

"Do you really wanna go, Cora?" he asked with a little more patience.

All I could do is nod. Daniel closed his eyes and aggressively rubbed his face with both hands.
