A loud bell rang through the Blythe household. The siblings woke up almost instantly and Astoria checked outside to see the Gillis house burning in the distance. She ran into her brothers room to see him already on his feet and walking towards the door.

"You go, I'll stay with father." Astoria said to him.

Gilbert nodded and they both went downstairs, Astoria into her father's room and Gilbert to the front door.

"What's happening?" Her father asked.

"The Gillis house is on fire. Gilbert is on his way to help put it out." Astoria said.

"I can help, too." Mr. Blythe tries to get up, but Astoria pushes him back into the bed.

"No, father, you're far too sick to be doing work like that." She said.

"I've got to, I can do it." He tries persuading.

"I've already said no. Gilbert and everyone else have it covered, don't you worry. You made him tough, he can take care of himself." Astoria responded sternly.

_____________

The next morning, the Gillis house was completely set out. The fire was long gone and it left black wood and an unusable building. Astoria and her father were at home while Gilbert had yet to return, and the two were getting a bit worried.

Astoria tried her best to make herself look confident for her father, but deep down she was really worried about her brother. That was, until he walked right through the door. She wasted no time in grabbing him into a bone crushing hug. Gilbert returned it with a laugh.

"What's wrong?" Gilbert laughed out.

"I was worried, was all." She answered. "And so was father. You should go check in with him, make sure he knows you're alright."

"Will do." He let go of the hug and walked into Mr. Blythe's room.

She took a deep breath before walking into the kitchen and turning on the stove. Astoria wanted to make some fresh-baked goods, and then she wanted to clean the house as it had already gotten dirty.

"I won't be staying long. I need to help with fixing the Gillis house." Gilbert told Astoria, as soon as he walked out of their fathers room.

"Alright, will you at least wait for me to make breakfast? You haven't eaten yet." She turned to him.

"I'll eat when I get back." Gilbert replied.

"No, you'll eat right now or you aren't going. That's final." Astoria firmly told him, making Gilbert sit at the table.

"Okay, mom." He joked.

_____________

"I'll be off." Gilbert said, walking towards the door.

"Alright. Be back by dinner." Astoria told him, waving him goodbye.

"I will." He called back, already at the gate.

"Boys." She shook her head. "Always wanting to get their hands dirty. I'll never understand it."

Astoria continues making bread, cookies, biscuits, and every other thing she could find in the cook book. She didn't make a lot of everything, but enough to share with other people.

'Ill have to get Gilbert to bring these to everyone tomorrow.' Astoria mentally noted.

_____________

"Gil, are you leaving now?" Astoria asked her brother, basket of baked-goods in her hands.

"Yes, why? Is something the matter?" He questioned.

"No, I- uh, I made these and wanted you to bring them to everyone working on the Gillis house. I'm sure you'd all get hungry at some point." Astoria told him, giving the basket to him.

"Oh, that's great, thanks. I'll be sure to tell everyone they're made with love." Gilbert kisses her head and walks out of the door.
