_____________
The snow fell, like every other day, and coated the ground. There was no longer sun, and there was no patch of green in sight. This morning was a bit different, though, because when Astoria woke up and went into the kitchen she was greeted with Gilbert making breakfast for them and their father.
"Gilbert? What are you doing?" She asked.
"I'm making breakfast for you and father, I figured it wasn't fair for you to do it all the time." Gilbert replied, taking their fathers breakfast to him.
"I guess this is a nice change." Astoria whispered, sitting down.
Gilbert came back in and gave Astoria her food, then packed his lunch. The two siblings could hear their father coughing from the other room and it saddened them to see him in such a vulnerable state.
"Are you alright, father?" Gilbert called.
"I'm fine. You go off to school, son." He called back.
Gilbert walked back into his father's room and spoke to him, though Astoria didn't listen in. She knew it was none of her business and kept it as such, because she was aware Gilbert didn't listen into any of her conversations with their father. It was respect, is all.
"I'll see you after school, Tori." Gilbert gave his sister a hug.
"I'll see you." Astoria replied, returning the hug.
He fled the house quickly, knowing he would most likely be late. Astoria, right away, went about doing her chores. She made sure the floor was swept, the tables were clean, and lunch was ready for her and her father.

The next morning, Gilbert was pouring tea for his father and he was reading to him while Astoria baked some cookies for the weekend. She started humming a tune to herself, one that she made up, while letting the cookies cool off.
Once they were cooled off, but still warm enough to eat, Astoria lightly knocked on the door; holding a small plate of cookies.
"Sorry to interrupt the story, but I come with cookies." Astoria holds up the plate, smiling.
"No, please, come in. We had just finished, actually." Gilbert told her.
"And I could go for some of Tori's fresh cookies." Mr. Blythe laughed, thanking his daughter.
"You're very welcome." Astoria replied.

A few hours later, lunch time had already arrived. Hurrying, Astoria tried her best to make a good lunch after being occupied by cleaning. Luckily for her, her father and brother didn't mind the slightly late lunch.
"I'm sorry I was late. I got so caught up in cleaning I didn't realize the time." Astoria apologized.
"No, it's alright. I could have made it if you asked me to." Gilbert said.
"Gilbert, cleaning this house and making food is what makes me feel useful. Let me have this." She tells her brother, walking out of the room to continue her work.
"I swear, that girl will work herself to death." Their father commented to Gilbert.
"I'm well aware." He sighed.
