"Today's the day, today's the day." Astoria sang, knowing today the boy would come and tomorrow she would be going to school.

The boy, she knew went by the name Tom, would come by at lunch. This made her clean the house like her life depended on it, this would be the first time since her dad died that there would be company in her home.

A knock on the door sounded and Astoria walked over to it, and opened it. Outside stood a boy, who looked 17 or 18. With a smile, she greeted him.

"Hi, you must be Tom, I'm Astoria. Pleasure to make your acquaintance." She held her hand out for him.

Happily, Tom took it. "Nice to meet you, too. Happy to be on the job again, I was getting restless. I don't like not doing work for too long."

"You and my brother both, he likes to keep busy." Astoria laughed. "Please, come in. I'll show you where you'll be sleeping."

"Thank you." Tom smiled.

Astoria told him to take his coat and hat off at the door, along with his shoes, and leave them on the coat hanger. She walked him up the stairs and led Tom to her brothers room, where he would be for a couple months.

"I know it isn't much, but it was my brothers." Astoria told him.

"It looks lovely, and will do just fine." Tom replied, looking around.

"And, I don't want to sound rude but, try not to move or break any of his things. Gilbert is pretty particular about that sort of stuff." She added.

"No, it's completely understandable. I would be the same way." He said.

"Okay, great. And tomorrow morning I'll make sure breakfast is ready." Astoria finished before walking out of the room.

_____________

"Astoria! Are you really here?" Anne happily squealed, hugging said girl.

"Yes, yes. I'm at school now. Gilbert figured it would be best for me." Astoria told her.

"Astoria, is that really you? Wow, I didn't recognize that face of yours." Billy came up to her.

"Um, yep, it's me." She said in a monotone voice.

"How long has it been since you'd left?" He questioned, trying to make conversation.

"Not long enough." Astoria fake smiled, walking over to the water hole to place her milk into it.

Once she got there, Astoria turned her head and a huge smile adorned her features. Walking over, she greeted her old friend.

"Cole, it's been forever." Astoria said.

"Astoria? Wow, it's amazing to see you. You look great." He stands up and gives Astoria a hug.

"As do you. And you've grown. Last time I saw you, we were practically the same height." Astoria joked.

"Well, working on a farm does wonders." Cole released the hug, smiling.

"I need to put my stuff away inside, but it was great seeing you. I'll talk to you at lunch." She waved goodbye and walked inside, putting her things she was carrying away.

_____________

"Answer'd Lancelot, the chief of knights: 'And with what face, after my pretext made, shall I appear, O Queen, at Camelot. I before a king who honors his word, as if the word-"

"I think the entire poem is shameful." Josie speaks up, interrupting Mr. Philips. "They should be tarred and feathered."

"Josie?" Mr. Philips nodded.

"Guinevere is married to the king, not Lancelot." Josie replied.

Astoria sat with a bored look on her face, this book not interesting her at all. She liked it so much better when she was studying herself, at least then she was leaning. At the corner of her eye, though, she could see Billy holding a long ruler and pushing it beside Cole.

Quickly, she turned her head just in time to see Billy knock over Cole's bottle of ink and spill it all over his paper. Cole stood up urgently, not wanting the ink to spill on him as well.

"Cole?" Mr. Philips sternly looked at him. "What have you got there?"

Cole turned around to look at Billy, seeing as there is now a smug look plastered over, in Astoria's words, 'that ugly bastards face'.

"Cole!" Mr. Philips yelled, making Astoria flinch.

"My apologies, Mr. Philips. I'll clean it up." Cole replied.

"Are you doodling... While I'm tirelessly dedicating my life to your education?" He asked Cole.

Astoria rolled her eyes at her dumb, egotistical teacher who cares about nothing other than himself.

"Blackboard!" Mr. Philips said. "Now!"

"But it wasn't Cole's fault. Billy was the one who knocked over his ink!" Astoria came to his defense.

"I don't suppose you would like to join him on your very first day back, would you Ms. Blythe?" Mr. Philips turned to Astoria.

"If it means I get to stand up for what's right, then I would. But if you don't make Billy go up there with me, I'll slander your fucking name." She cursed, walking over to whisper in his ear. "And I wonder who people would believe. The teacher, or the teen girl crying to all the mother's about how her teacher was touching her after class."
