Chapter 12

Previously on Chapter 11

I breathe heavily and fall on to the crate. Eleven rush towards me. "Y/N... are you okay?" She said. I feel heavy on the chest. But I force myself to stay awake. I look at Eleven and smiles, nodding my head. She lets out a sigh of relief and pulls me into a hug. I just hug her back. I'm fading... I can feel it. But I want to see Mike. One last time.

Y/N P.O.V

We head back to Byer's house where everyone agrees to meet up, after we finished. I lean my head against the head rest. I feel pain slowly growing in my chest. I place my hand on my chest, feeling my heart beat slowing down.

'Please... just a little longer. Let me see Mike... for one last time...' I thought to myself. My eyes keep fluttering close, but I force them to stay open. I'm scared that if I let close. They will stay close.

After a while of driving, we finally reach the Byers house. Hopper pulls up in their yard. I can see Mike and the others waiting for us. I smile at the sight of him.

"Mike" I said. I get out of the car. He smiles happily when he sees me. "Y/N..." he said. He rush towards me. I spread my arms for him, welcoming him in my embrace. He buries his face into the crook of my neck. "I thought I won't be able to see you again..." he said. I tighten my arms around him.

I pull away from him. "I'm sorry..." I said, placing my hand on his cheek. "W-What do you m-mean?" He asked, looking at me with a confused expression.

I can hear a choked sob. I turn my head slightly to see Eleven crying. The others stare at me with a sad expression. She must have told them. The only one that didn't know is Mike, because he focuses on me.

Eleven's P.O.V

I walk to stand with the others. They embrace me in a tight hug. I close my eyes, letting myself sink in deeper in their embrace. I'm having mixed feelings. I'm glad that it's all over... but I'm sad that I'm about to lose someone important to me.

I pull away from the hug and turn my head to look at Y/N and Mike. "They truly love each other, huh?" I hear Max said. "Yeah... I've never seen love as strong as theirs. My single ass couldn't relate" Dustin said, making the others laugh at his comment. I frown at the thought that Mike is about to lose the girl he loves so dearly.

"What's wrong, El?" Max said, placing a hand on my shoulder. "Yeah... you look sad. Are you not happy for the couple?" Lucas said, looking at me with a concern expression. I turn to look at them.

"She w-won't make i-it..." I said, to the others. They turn their heads to look at me. "W-What do y-you mean? What are you talking about?" Max asked. I turn to look at her, trying to control my tears.

"Y/N's soul is somehow connected to the Upside Down. She only told me as we were about to close the gate. She knows this will happen" I said, tearing up. They let out a gasp as they hear what I said. They start to tear up as I turn to look at Y/N, who's in Mike's embrace. I can see her eyes fluttering shut. I bit my lips, knowing the affect is already starting.

"She's fading away..." I said, making them gasps. I glance at them to see them starting to cry. Mostly Lucas and Dustin, because they're the closest to Y/N aside from Mike and I. She's their best friend.

I bit my lips as tears finally stream down my cheeks. I lift my hand, covering my mouth as an attempt to keep my cries silent. I need to let Y/N and Mike have their moment... it will be the last time.

"What's going on? Your body is getting colder, Y/N. What's happening?" he said, still holding Y/N. "I'm sorry, Mike" she said, placing her hand on his cheek. Her eyes roll back and collapse in his arms. He move to kneel down, with Y/N in his arms.

"Y/N? Y/N! Wake up!" He said, shaking Y/N. He turns to look at me. "What happened to her, El? What's going on??" He said. I walk towards him. I kneel down next to him.

I place my hand on his shoulder. "She knew... she knew that she won't survive after closing the gate. Mike... Y/N's connected to the Upside Down. She knew closing the gate will kill her" I said. His eyes widened at what I said. He shakes his head.

"No... no no no... No!! Y/N... you promised you'd come back. You promised you'd come back alive!" He said, shaking Y/N. She didn't respond. Mike choked out a sob as he hugs her close to his chest. "Come back..." he said, in a hush voice.

"Mike..." I said, placing my hand on his shoulder. He let out a scoff. He place Y/N on the ground gently and turn to me, brushing my hand off his shoulder. He stands up, glaring at me. I back away at the way he's staring at me. If looks could kill, I would be dead by now.

"Why did you let her? Why?! She must have told you before you guys close the gate, right?! So why didn't you stop her?" He yelled, heavy tears streams down his cheeks.

"I... I tried. But she-" I said. "You should have tried harder!" He screamed, cutting me off. His tears keep streaming down his cheeks. I just stare at him in sadness, my own tears flowing down.

"Y-You should've s-stopped her..." he said, sobbing harder. "Mike..." I said. He lets out a scream as he clutch his hair in his hands. He choke out a sob, he turns to Y/N and falls on his knees right next to her body.

Mike P.O.V

I kneel down next to Y/N. I place my forehead on her chest. "P-Please..." I pleaded. My tears keep falling from my eyes, onto her shirt. I move my head from her chest. I place my forehead against hers. I start to cry harder. A few of my tears falls to her cheek. "Y/N... please...
