Chapter 12

Clarissa Fairchild held in her sobs as she ran outside the cave, tears streamed down her face as she tried to control her breathing. 

 "What happened?" Alec frowned, looking at her panicked face. "What did you find out? Does it have anything to do with Olivia?"

 "Valentine is Clary's father," Jace mumbled to his mate as he got closer to him.

  "Wait a minute," Alec's eyes widened.  "You're telling me this girl shows up out of nowhere and she's Valentine's daughter? Did it ever occur to you that she might be a spy? This might be a part of her plan." Alec quickly grabbed Jace's hand and pulled him behind himself, as if protecting him from the redhead. 

 "She didn't just show up out of nowhere, Al," Jace said softly in his ears, ensuring to keep their conversation out of Clary's ears - although that was very easy as she was looking around, with no care for the two of them. "She's Liv's sister." 

"Doesn't mean we have to trust her."

"We don't. But you can't treat her like this either, babe. Who do you think Liv is going to choose? The mates she doesn't even know she has and just met or her sister, who she's spent her entire life loving? I refuse to lose her."

"I refuse to lose her too, but-." Before the raven haired Shadowhunter could finish his sentence, he was cut off by Clary who was glaring at him. 

"Do you think I planned for my mom to get kidnapped? Or... or for Dot to be taken? Or to have a giant sword dangle over my head and find out that my father is one of the most dangerous people in the world?" 

Clary's breathing quickened as realization dawned on her, fear clouded her eyes and she looked around frantically. 

"Where's Simon? Where's Olivia?" 

Isabelle rushed to the three of them when she saw them. "Where's Simon?" Clary asked her again, raising her voice slightly.

"I told him to stay in the van. I've searched everywhere."

"Where's Olivia?" Jace almost shouted. 

Isabelle bit her lip and looked down at the floor, guilt filling her body, she lost her brother's mate within 24 hours of him finding her. 

"He's gone? Simon's gone? Liv is gone?" Clary gasped. 

 "I can't find them," Izzy shook her head. 

"You were supposed to protect him," Clary yelled before jumping into a run, looking around everywhere and anywhere for her best friends. 

"Simon!" 

She yelled. 

Jace and Alec joined her, yelling out their mate's name with desperation. "Olivia!"

 "Simon!"

"Liv!"

"Olivia!"

"Simon!"

"Simon!"

"Is that the mundane's name?" They heard a voice from above them. 

 A woman held Simon upside down while a man with insanely pale skin held onto Olivia, his hand was wrapped around her throat and he held her tight against him, his chest against her back. He was grinning at the crowd below them. 

Jace and Alec held onto each other, holding each other back to stop themselves from violating the Accords and killing the vampire that had his filthy hands on their mate. Their Olivia. 

They could see that she was shaking, even from the distance and it took everything in them not to get his hands off of her and hold her and protect her forever. Dread and fear filled their bodies at the sight of her like that. Scared. Helpless. They never wanted to see her like that again. Ever. 

"I'm afraid Simon and the lovely Olivia are coming with us," the vampire smirked. 

 "No!" Clary shrieked. "He is not a part of this."

"And it'll be my pleasure to  kill you unless you return her," Jace growled, trying to get his mate off of him so that he could fulfil the promise and protect his mate. 

"Jace no," Olivia whimpered, only to feel the vampire's fangs get closer to her, she could feel his breath on her neck. But somehow, she knew that he wouldn't hurt her. 

"Careful, Jace," Alec whispered. "We'd be violating the Accords, that could put her in even more danger."

"I'm afraid your sidekick's quite right," the vampire said. "The Night Children have broken no laws. We're negotiating. The mundane and the Shadowhunter, unharmed, in exchange for the mortal cup. And the clock is ticking."

And he sped off again with Olivia.
