It had been a few months since (Y/n) had begun her studies as well as her journey into the world of death and her soon to be job for as long as her sentence would allow. She had become accustomed to the idea of committing to this, nearly having completely forgotten about the contract with Claude as she'd made friends with her fellow Reapers and was starting to lose her motivation for seeking revenge. Ronald stopped sleeping on the couch and began sharing the bed with her, with a decent wall of pillows between them that eventually faded away to their backs pressed together as their shield from one another. She had warmed up to her superior, Mr Spears, and had even taken to teasing him with Ronald.
She'd started feeling again, and it was refreshing to say the least.
At the end of her classes for the day, she always found her roommate waiting outside her classroom for her. He was never not there, and she wouldn't have it any other way. She'd be lying if she said she didn't have somewhat of a crush on him, and she was starting to hope that maybe their pillow wall at home disappearing was a sign that he might've fancied her in that way as well.
"Heyya doll, how was class?" he'd always ask, as she approached him from the empty classroom that she'd always wait behind in.
"Good, I've finally got the hang of the idea of the handbook and lists," she said, closing the door behind herself, "the professor said I'd be ready for practical work after this unit."
"That's great! Surely I'll get to work with you soon," he exclaimed, poking her in the side endearingly, "and you'll get a new pair of specs too."
"Gosh, I can't wait," she said, taking her glasses off to clean them on her shirt, "these flimsy little things won't last me too much longer."
"You're almost there sweetheart, not too much longer and you'll be a full fledged reaper."
Her faced burned bright red - she loved the little names he'd call her out of endearment. She was okay with this becoming her new life, she was happy once again.
"Ronald, (Y/n)."
The two of you spun around at the sound of your names being called, finding it to be your superior, Mr Spears, with a clipboard in one arm and his scythe in the other.
"I've got (Y/n)'s first practical job prepared," Will began abruptly, igniting a fire of excitement in her gut as they walked and talked.
"Recent reports entail the possibility of corpses walking after soul collection."
Confusion carved itself into each of the other reaper's faces at hearing the absurd idea.
"Surely you jest, Mr Spears," Ronald breathed out in disbelief.
"Hopefully so, however there lives a society among humans dedicated to the idea of resurrection. Naturally, we went on to ignore the group, thinking they would never go on to achieve such feats. Though these reports, however small and unsure they may be, need dire attention given the fact that this society even exists in the first place,
"(Y/n). You will not go onto finish your last unit. Right now, I've assigned you and Ronald to this job of investigating this society and getting to the bottom of this situation - finding out whether or not these statements have any truth to them. You will report to the management division immediately, where you will have a new pair of spectacles tailored to your unique features and requirements. Then, to administration, where you will recieve a death scythe of your choosing.
"You will recieve the active investigative files on this case tomorrow morning the minute you get to work. I'm counting on the two of you."
