Chapter 12: One Time in New Jersey

New Jersey is one of the most populous cities on the East Coast of America and in this city itself, two people from different backgrounds met up in an unpredictable situation. Since Heather was still on her leave and Philip would be starting his new job next week, the Korean-American man invited his fiancée to have a stroll inside the beautiful city of New Jersey as he wanted to spend more time with her before both of them go back to their respective careers.

It was a sunny yet breezy morning therefore, the new recently engaged lovebirds decided to go into a Liberty State Park. The 490 hectares park was situated opposite the spectacular Liberty Island where the Statue of Liberty is located and was opened to the public in the year 1976.

 Philip Kim stared at his beautiful fiancée in full of admiration. He never thought that heaven has let him be the future husband to the woman that he loves since he was still young. Heather could be considered his first love and with the great chances that came instantly – he promised himself not to take her for granted.

"Thank you for bringing me here. I have been longing to come here but due to my hectic schedules, I just cannot drop myself here." Heather said, shutting her eyes tight while feeling the breezy winds running through her body. Day by day, she started to forget about the pains that made her ache including the current incident where she just lost her baby because of an inevitable accident.

"Just want you to be happy back, so I take it as my pleasure. I know our engagement was too rush but I don't want to wait any longer. I feel guilty for you and our angel." Philip replied sadly as he could not stand the thought that their baby has gone to a better place. Heather who stood beside him, was tearing with tears once Philip mentioned their angel.

Both of them were embracing one another, sharing the same loss that had taken their heart out. Who did not feel heartbreak when the offspring that they thought could be born safely and grow up into good human beings, has gone in the blink of an eye?

 Even though he was lacking in a relationship, Philip still has a conscience thus he consoled her warmly. As someone that was labelled as a cold-hearted man by his co-workers due to his ignorant of romance, Philip slowly changed into someone new once he met Heather back in the remarkable Koh Samui.

"Sometimes, you need to face hardship before the actual happiness appears. I know this is hard for you, but it is also hard for me. Don't worry, Heather. We can go through this circumstance, together." With a sweet voice, the future Assistant General Attorney reassuringly spoke to his fiancé. He then kissed her forehead lightly before embracing her tightly, did not way her to go out of his sight.

"Why I have not met you in the first place? You made my heart soothes with your warm words." Heather replied, chuckling with her thoughts. Later on, she shed her tears with the hankie given by her future husband. He sighed, before responding to her statement that had touched his heart.

"I wish I was strong to confess at that time but I don't. Forgive me." He said, but those words were confusing inside Heather's mind. Why did Philip need to apologize even though it was not his mistake as fate has brought him later into her life?

Before she could speak any further, Philip changed the conversation and then brought her to the local café where he wanted to have a brunch with her plus his stomach could not stop from growling in hungriness. The Grind Coffee Shop became the stop of their brunch as Heather told Philip that she was craving a good hot chocolate – and her man did not hesitate to bring her into one of the best cafés in New Jersey.

As for Philip, he chose a mouth-watering spinach quiche and matcha latte while Heather had a sweet doughnut and irresistible hot chocolate. The ambience of the café was cosy, and both Philip and Heather were enjoying their time there until the talented painter spoke – wanting to know more about the statement Philip had mentioned earlier where he out of sudden apologise to her despite not doing any wrongdoing to her.
