Chapter 13: In a Slitherum

Apart from thinking about his busy career later, Philip Kim decided to have a date with her fiancée – this time in the metropolitan city that is known throughout the world as Big Apple. The reason why he wanted to bring Heather to New York is that it would be better to have a proper date in a city that has many attractions. To help Heather overcome her postpartum depression, Philip brought his woman to the Statue of Liberty; which was just located in their place.

"Don't understand why you wanted to bring me here." She stated frustratingly as when Philip mentioned they would have a date in New York – she had imagined that he will bring her somewhere romantic, and have a great stroll together. To be honest, she had come to this place a few years ago with Malcolm, and the Statue of Liberty had to become a witness of his proposal to her.

Out of a sudden, Philip knelt to one knee and proposed to her with the hand of marriage – this time with a platinum ring, not with words that he did last time. Like a Déjà vu, Heather felt the situation that she experienced now was similar to three years ago when Malcolm popped out the same question and asked her to marry him. Speechless by his action, Heather did not say anything until Philip placed the beautiful diamond ring on her sweet finger.

"I hope this surprise is a pleasure to your soul, honey." And then, he kissed her on the forehead. Even though the situation was similar to the time she was with Malcolm, however, the reaction that she gave toward the two men was different. For her former flame, she was excited about his proposal but not about Philip as the memories between her and Malcolm have triggered her heart to be confused.

"Can you bring me somewhere, out of here?" She requested, hoping that he would bring her to another place that could help her to remove Malcolm from her mind. Even though she already moved on with her past, Heather's emotions were still unstable and she could not cope with the heartaches her former fiancé had left inside her fragile heart.

"Sure." Without any hesitation, Philip brought Heather to Central Park so she could regain her composure back. It would be a lie if he did not realise something was wrong with Heather that seems lost inside her thoughts.

They arrived in Central Park approximately half an hour later, yet the beautiful painter did not speak even a word. To understand her more, Philip tried to dig into the reason why Heather became so dull during their first official date as a couple. The 843 acres of the urban park were not so crowded with people and the atmosphere was cosy for their date – but not on the artist as the memories between her and Malcolm suddenly popped out inside her mind.

"Hey, are you alright?" Philip asked worriedly. At that time, both of them were sitting on a garden bench provided inside the park itself. The prosecutor grasped her palm, giving undying support that he would be beside her no matter what situations hit her life.

"I don't know, Philip. I am so scared to get heartbroken, again. And the way you proposed me just now, seems similar to three years ago. How irony, both of you just asked the same person for the hand of marriage – but I never ever thought Malcolm would tearing my heart into pieces." She cried, but still chuckles along with the words. He shed tears on her face and understood why Heather was behaving strangely when he was asking her about marriage an hour ago.

"Can you remove Malcolm, out of your mind?" He said, but this time in a firm tone. Honestly, he felt a little bit jealous of her former flame as Heather seems to remember him entirely; thus, he was afraid that she might go to him. Philip did not want to let go of Heather even after what she went through. Last time when both of them were still younger, Philip had to let her go for Malcolm as he did not want to be a wrecker of their relationship but this time around; he would not let him steal his woman away, out from his sight.
