Chapter 24 - The Euphoria

The life of Philip Kim and his wife, Heather Miller would be changed sooner when the pregnant lady was hospitalised two days earlier due to a false alarm contraction. Now in the labour room, Heather was battling with her own life to give birth to the child that has been with her for almost nine months. 

Although she wanted to give birth naturally, her panel of gynaecologists was against it due to her weak womb and it would be better for her to have a Caesarean section – a surgery uses in baby delivery. Even reluctant at first, all of her family members including Philip insisted she does that operation since the complication when she gives birth naturally was too high compares to surgery.

Four hours in the labour room seems like a year, even worse than waiting for the result of his bar exam and Philip could not hide his nervousness since he was so afraid of the consequences of the childbirth. Fortunately, everything went well and Heather gave birth to a healthy baby boy with a weight of 2.9 kilograms. Mother and baby were in a great state, but the father was the one who got emotional when he could not stop himself from tearing the water out of his eyes.

"He looks so handsome and strong. I hope he can be a good man, someday." Heather whispered to her husband while holding carefully the baby that she can be called her son. After losing her firstborn, the arrival of her second baby meant a lot for her and Philip as they had to struggle before conceiving him.

"And I want him to be as talented as you where he can paint as many canvases as he wants. I don't mind what he would be as long as he can be a good man to society." Philip replied, kissing the sweaty forehead of his wife. How could he break her heart when she was struggling to give birth to his child, thus leaving him in deep realisation about parenthood.

An hour later, Heather was fallen asleep as well as the baby that they decided to name Henry Tae Hyung Kim– and many relatives came over to visit the mother and the baby. At the same time, both Heather and Philip's parents could not hide their excitement to receive the first grandchild as they wanted to take care of him until he has grown up and become a successful person in the world. In the meantime, many good friends of theirs also pay a visit including Daphne and Christian whom Philip thought suitable to be his son's god-parents.

"Congrats, buddy. Cannot believe you already being a father. Oh my gosh, I feel so old now." Christian said before becoming his usual self that could not stop talking even for a second. Daphne who was staring at him, had a slight giggle as she thought he was too funny and easy to have a conversation with.

"Please tell Heather that Daphne comes to visit, and send my regards to her. Sorry for cannot stay long as I get some urgent matter to settle." Then Daphne spoke to Philip in an apologetic tone as she could not take her time in the hospital as she has a business to deal with. After conveying a goodbye, Christian suddenly asked the beautiful woman whether she can drop him at the airport as he got a flight to catch later.

"I hope you don't mind if you can send me to the airport." Christian said with a chuckle, but deep down he was nervous. Never in billion years, he would do something ridiculous like this by asking a girl to drop him at the airport – where usually the man becomes the one that sends his lover away.

Daphne shook her head, was agreeing to give a ride to Christian – the paralegal she met at her best friend's wedding. Moreover, she also harboured a feeling for that man and it seems like a dream comes true to send him to the airport. When the two people walked side by side, Philip was looking at them with full of astonishment as he could not believe that Christian and Daphne were a thing without them even realise it.

A few days later, Heather was discharged from the hospital alongside the baby and she would be having a confinement session with none other than her favourite mother-in-law. In Asian countries, this traditional practice is widely used among the mother who has just given birth – and Heather has to stick with the rules that Mrs Kim has mentioned to her numerously about the benefits of confinement to be the best daughter-in-law; she merely followed her instructions.
