Chapter 9 | The newcomer

(Ash's POV)

"Hi, my names Calem Xavier"

My first impression of this guy? Why are his clothes so damn similar to mine? Just kidding. But really, his clothes look really similar...Anyways I can already tell he's not just some random face in the crowd. He's way more different than the others here.

"Okay Calem, you may take a seat now" Our teacher says.

Once Calem sits down, our teacher does our attendance like usual and we're sent to class. I head to Maths with Drew and Kenny. I give Professor Rowan my work then we take our seats at the back. Soon after, Calem walks in.

"Check it out, there's that new kid" Drew points out.

"What do you think of him?" I ask them.

They shrug. "Dunno, just...new kid y'know?" Kenny says. 

Serena walks into our class, followed by May. 

"Hi guys!" May says as she and Serena sit near us.

"Hey" I say.

"Did yo-" Serena starts.

"Yes I gave him my work Serena" I say, sweatdropping.

"Good" she says.

-Time skip- (Serena's POV)

Ugh, all this work is so difficult. I think I can see why Ash didn't finish any of them.

"Psst, Serena! Don't look now but Calem's looking at you!" May whispers into my ear.

Immediately going against May's orders, I look up and see Calem glancing over at me. He quickly looks away.

"Bit weird" I say, shrugging it off.

Son enough, Math class ends and we have Science. All of us head there together and take a seat. And once again, Calem is staring at me. This is getting a little bit weird.

"Okay class! Please take down notes while we go through the presentation!" Professor Sycamore calls.

He starts his presentation but before I can write down a single thing, May taps my shoulder.

"What, May?" I say, irritated.

"He threw you a note" she says, handing the paper ball to me. I open it.

Wanna grab a drink after school? :)

This guy's pretty bold to ask someone to get a drink on his first day. I didn't want to hurt his feelings so I just write "I'm busy today, sorry" and throw it back.

I didn't bother to see his reaction so I just did my work as quickly as possible. All throughout the lesson he kept staring at me in what he thought was a subtle way.

This was going to be a long day.

(Ash's POV)

What is this guy doing? All he's doing is just staring. He reminds me of those suspicious people on the subway that you hear from scary stories.

"He's doing it again" Gary says in my ear. He had taken it upon himself to remind me every time Calem decided to stare at Serena.

"Sorry, Mr Xavier? Please start taking down some notes. You've barely started" Professor Sycamore says.

I start laughing but quickly stop myself in case I get yelled at too. That reminded me to hand my work to Professor Sycamore. I stand up and leave it on his desk and head back. 

While walking back to my desk, Calem decides to stick his leg out at the very last second to make trip over. Looks like he heard me laughing at him. I quickly save myself before falling on the ground so as to not make a scene. I take my seat and glare at him while he has a stupid smirk on his face.
