Wilting Flowers

Chapter 7

Hunter jolted as he heard his name being called from a bit of a distance, 'Right,' he had forgotten Edric was there. Well, there was no going back now, but Hunter had not confirmed the event to be a date, but he didn't deny it either. Eventually he made his way over to Edric who was now seated just outside the cafe, "Well you dressed fancy?" Hunter said, hoping to get a conversation going. Edric smirked, "So it looks real huh?" the green haired boy said, before waving at his own clothes, they disappeared revealing much more casual attire. "It's an illusion," Hunter muttered, he was amazed, until he remembered the night his uncle faded into nothing but a gray mist. "Hey Hunter? You're zoning out," Edric said, gently placing his hand on Hunter's. The blonde's ears burned as his face heated up, he yanked his hand away clearing his throat. The two sat in awkward silence, before Edric pipped up, "At least we match now?" He said, "It would be weird if I wore a suit, and you wore casual," Edric, said chuckling. Hunter smiled before he remembered why he had actually called Edric in the first place. 'Here goes nothing,' he thought. "So, I was wondering," he was cut off by a girl they both knew. "Hey guys, it's nice to see you both here," she said sweetly, "It's good to be here," Hunter said smiling softly at his friend, Edric nodding along. "What can I get you two to drink?" she said, "I'll have green tea please!" Edric said confidently, "And Peppermint tea," he added. Hunter made a face at him when Edric ordered green tea. "One ginger tea and one green tea please," Hunter said smiling. "Okay, I'll be back with your drinks soon," she said, her soft and caring smile never leaving her face as she walked away. "Edric, green tea? Seriously?" Hunter said, crossing his arms and smirking. "What? I can't try something new?" Edric said, "You can but," Hunter didn't get a chance to finish, Willow placed down the green tea's happily skipping away, saying she'd be back to bring the other two drinks. "What I was going to say, was this herbal tea shop is famous for the twists that they throw into their drinks, specifically the green tea. So just be prepared for" Hunter stopped talking and rolled his eyes, Edric had already taken a large gulp. "See good as new!" Edric said, smiling proudly, "Buuut they definitely put human stuff in here," Edric continued, Luz had told him about this ingredient before...Blackberries? Was that it? Hunter shrugged nonchalantly, before taking a sip. He coughed a little, before taking another sip and smiling, "This has a nice kick to it," Hunter said laughing and coughing, "I like it and I think I know what the twist is," he said. Edric grabbed his drink taking a sip, "It's not that bad," Edric said smugly, Hunter wanted to smack that grin right off the illusionist's face. No less that 30 seconds later, Edric began to feel some serious burning on his throat and tongue and then he started coughing and hacking. Hunter smirked, crossing his arms and legs triumphantly, an evil smile played itself on his lips. He leaned into Edric's ear whispering, "It's Fire Bee Honey. Twit," he said, laughing loudly. Willow arrived quickly, passing him a drink cold drink, rushing off to get napkins. Edric drank quickly, but soon began coughing again, he was choking. Great. Hunter stood up urgently, as he performed the heimlich maneuver on Edric, eventually, the taller was breathing normally again, his face red from the spice and lack of air. Hunter was panting and a heaving as if he had been the one choking. The two made eye contact, before awkwardly laughing, "Not how I imagined our first date would go," Edric said, running a hand through his own hair nervously. "Yeah," Hunter muttered, scratching behind his neck sheepishly. "Wait-It's not a da-" The bill was slammed in front of the too, startling Hunter. "Here's the bill," Willow said smiling, she had cut off Hunter right before he finished. Edric paid, Hunter getting up slowly and exiting first, waving goodbye. Edric paused before leaving, he turned around pointing finger guns at her, "I owe you one," he mouthed before following Hunter outside. Willow smiling and shaking her head knowingly. They walked in silence, Edric moving closer and closer to the golden guard every time he looked away. "I know what you're doing," Hunter said smiling, it was dark now, but Hunter's face still lit up. "I'm sorry if I-" Hunter stopped him, putting up his hand. "No need, I understand if you're afraid of the dark, many people are. When I was younger, I was afraid of the dark too," the blonde said, moving closer to Edric. If he wanted to have his way, Hunter was going to have to be forward but nice and soft. Edric smiled, enjoying their closeness. "Y'know, I never really get to see the open sky at night like this," Hunter said, "Kind of makes me feel special, thank you for that," he said to Edric, who blushed furiously. "Oh, you're welcome, but it was your idea to come to the cafe," Edric said. "I know, but your presence, it makes me feel nice, privileged. Maybe even a little nervous every now and then," Hunter said, feeling his own face take on a light pink. The end of the trail was coming, and Hunter still had not gotten the chance to be able to ask Edric about being his companion for this 'adventure.' Hunter spoke up again and Edric was thankful he did, the green haired boy was feeling way too stiff and flustered to speak. "Thanks for paying Ed for the drinks, but before we go, I need to ask you something," Hunter said, he closed his eyes, grabbing both of Edric's hands and leaned in slowly. His eye lids opened as he's looked up and directly into Edric's eyes. Magenta, almost scarlet-colored eyes staring into pure golden ones. Hunter's face was so close that their lips were nearly brushing. Hunter exhaled; this was it he was going to do it.
