You felt lost. Empty. Guilty.
How could he go through with it like that?
It was your body. Your baby. And now... they were gone.
Walking in from the hospital, you didn't say a word. You went straight upstairs, the silence between you loud enough to suffocate.
You stepped into the bathroom and turned on the water, running yourself a bath.
Sinking into the warm water, you let yourself feel it—everything. The pain. The loss. The ache in your chest that wouldn't go away.
You were drowning in it.
A few minutes passed before he came in, sitting quietly on the stool next to the tub.
"You okay?" he asked gently.
"No," you replied, eyes locked on the water. "But I will be."
He sighed and looked away, jaw tightening.
"Don't do this to me, doll."
"Do what, daddy? I said I'm okay." You stood, reaching for a towel and stepping out of the tub, trying to walk past him.
But his hand caught your wrist.
"No, you're not. Stop fucking lying to me."
Your eyes dropped to the floor. Your lip trembled.
And then the tears came.
He pulled you into his chest, arms wrapping around you tightly as you broke down in his arms.
"I'm sorry," you whispered through your sobs. "It's just... it's hard."
"I know, baby. I know. Calm down."
He kissed your forehead roughly, trying to soothe you as your breathing became sharp and erratic.
"Shh... breathe, baby. Calm down," he said firmly, rubbing your back in slow circles.
Then he lifted your chin, forcing you to look at him.
And for the first time, you saw it.
He was hurting too.
He just didn't know how to show it.
"It's gonna hurt for a while," he said quietly. "But I'm here. Daddy's not going anywhere. If you need me... I'm here."
A silence settled between you, heavy and raw.
"So..." you whispered, voice barely audible. "Does this mean... we'll never be able to have kids?"
"I don't know, doll," he replied softly, wiping your tears with his thumb.
You swallowed hard, your voice cracking. "Will you still love me even if I can't have kids?"
He let out a small laugh—not mocking, but surprised at how softly you dropped the word love in there.
"Yeah, baby," he said, cupping your face. "I'll still love you."
