He notices the slight curl that forms at the corner of her chapped lips and the tightness in his chest starts to unravel. Steve can't remember the last time Laurie looked at him like this; like he's the solution to an equation she's been trying to solve, like she's the extraordinary artist and he's her masterpiece, like he's the impossible diamond she found in the rough.

She looks at him like she loves him.

     And Steve isn't sure he deserves that, not after what he did.
