CHAPTER 002. STARCOURT

LAURIE HATES STARCOURT MALL.

Because her mom is on the brink of a breakdown since she can barely afford the rent of her diner, Laurie already had a distaste for the building. The mayor, Larry Kline, claimed that bringing "modernisation" to Hawkins is exactly what this community needs to move on past the recent tragedies plaguing their town.

Truth be told, Laurie never quite understood how upping tax prices and running local stores out of business could make up for the suspicious deaths of people like Barbara Holland and Bob Newby.

When it first opened, Laurie did everything in her power to avoid the mall all together. She had no business shopping in there after all the damage it's done. But at some point she couldn't anymore because it was the only place getting enough money to hire new people.

From Robin's endless ranting, Laurie has heard multiple horror stories of what Starcourt is like during its busiest hour. However, Laurie never realised how bad it was until she had to keep coming back for her job interviews. Sure, she's been here a handful of times to pick up Robin from work, but that was usually when it was past closing time and the mall was empty.

But today being a Saturday, making her way through the sea of overly excited mallrats is suffocating. The bright lights, the loud music, the large crowds- it was a panic attack waiting to happen. However, she needs to ace this interview at Sam Goody's, so she doesn't have time to dwell on her racing heartbeat and uneasy breath.

At first the interview was going well. The manager, a man in his mid-to-late 20's by the name of Dave, told her he was impressed by her resume. She had good experience handling money, a kind smile, and had a steady understanding of the up and coming fashion trends- almost every quality you'd want in someone working retail.
