CHAPTER 017. I WOULDN'T REMEMBER ME EITHER

(WARNING: Brief mention of a male guard slapping Laurie)

LAURIE HAS NEVER FELT LONELIER.

She isn't too sure how long she's been separated from Steve. It could have been hours, minutes, maybe even seconds, she's not sure. Regardless of how long she's been cooped up in this room, the one thing she knows for certain is that she can't stop herself from worrying.

Worrying that Robin, Erica and Dustin might not have found their way out of here; That her mom and dad, and brother have noticed that she's been gone for over 24 hours; That Steve is even still alive.

Laurie's cries echoed throughout the halls as they dragged her into a secluded room, her limbs aching and her chest feeling like the weight of the world is crushing down on her. The room itself is large and empty, and she can tell people had been here before because of the faint red stains scattered here and there on the concrete floors.

Her arms hurt, her legs hurt, and her cheek is bruised from the backhanded slaps she kept receiving when she told the Russians half-truths about why she and Steve were here. Laurie concluded that there was no use in being honest because quite frankly even if she had told them what really lead them here, they wouldn't have believed her.

After the Russians were fed up with her so-called lying, Laurie was left alone to wallow in self-pity. wasn't left to wallow in panic and sorrow for too long because the same group of guards who had hauled her through the passageways returned with the colonel general.

"What do you want?" Laurie sobs through chapped lips, her body heaving forward. "I told you, nobody knows we're here, and- and we won't tell anybody, I swear. You can just let us go,"
