CHAPTER 012. NOT CHINESE FOOD

"ALL RIGHT, NERDS. I'M THERE,"

Whilst Robin and Steve manned the counter at Scoops after finally convincing Erica to help them uncover the truth about the suspicious shipment boxes, Laurie was in charge of keeping the kids in order until her favorite sailors finished their shift. They played countless rounds of child friendly poker, gambling with the M&M'S Steve provided them with and bickered like casino players.

At some point, the two kids even made Laurie run out to get them sandwiches from Subway with Steve when he was on his lunch break. It was strange, because honestly Laurie didn't think Dustin and Erica needed that much supervision, but she knew Robin and Steve couldn't handle their endless arguing and serve the waves of customers coming in and out of the store.

The mall had closed about an hour or so ago, and Laurie, Erica, and Steve were prepping the younger girl for her journey as Robin and Dustin made sure the loading dock was clear.

"Remember, you can always drop out of this, okay?" Laurie reminded Erica for the hundredth time as she helped the younger girl strap on her knee and elbow pads. Even though the Sinclair girl hadn't exactly been the nicest to her thus far, Laurie still feels the need to bear responsibility over her, making sure she stays safe and accounted for through this whole process. "If you ever get scared, or something, you can crawl back out. We'll just find another way in,"

"I don't get scared, Priss," Erica had told Laurie, causing the older girl to let out a tired sigh. It's almost laughable; how Laurie, who's turning 18 at the beginning of August, is apparently more nervous than the 11-year-old in front of her. Erica smiled, "I've done crazier shit than this,"

Laurie chewed at the inside of her cheek because she honestly didn't doubt it. Erica is a brave young girl, and it wouldn't surprise Laurie in the slightest if she had actually participated in crazier events than this.
