CHAPTER 025. FOLLOW ME INTO DEATH

LAURIE CAN'T REALLY IMAGINE WHAT SHE'D BE DOING RIGHT NOW WITHOUT ROBIN BY HER SIDE.

There are two options, really, drastically different from one another but equally as scary. For one, she could be at home, life still as meaningless as any average teen girl is in a small town like Hawkins, probably gossiping with her freckled best friend about how it's impossible to get a job that doesn't revolve around Starcourt or how Robin can't get Tammy Thompson out of her head.

Maybe Laurie would be cutting Robin's hair in her cramped hall bathroom because she can't handle the awkward small talk she has with the pretty 20-something-year-old hairdresser, or maybe Robin would be painting Laurie's nails and telling her all things Steve - Dingus - related as if she was unaware of her best friends sudden reignited feelings for the boy.

Or, depressingly enough, she could be dead.

Laurie could be dead, laying lifeless in an underground bunker hidden deep beneath Starcourt with the boy her heart yearns for, death covered up like all the other mysterious disappearances that've happened in the past few years and nobody would be the wiser.

It's scary to think about, Laurie knowing what she does now, how a seemingly fun pastime of translating a message a curly-haired boy had found whilst trying to contact his girlfriend has now been revealed to be something more sinister, a life-threatening battle with the supernatural. Who knows what might've been if Robin, Erica, and Dustin hadn't found Laurie and Steve when they did? What the Russians would've done to them if it weren't for their escape?

It's been a waiting game ever since the ragtag group of teens and kids finally gained authoritative figures amongst them, Hopper, Joyce Byers, and private investigator Murray Bauman all trying to figure out a way to defeat the Russians and the apparent 30-foot monster without putting any of them in immediate danger.
