"Hey!" Mara heard the muffled voice call out next to her as she pushed through the crowded streets of Vaethea.

Her senses had been on overdrive as she pushed through, barely able to hear the shouts of the people next to her. She could hear her heart thumping loudly and she could hear her own breath as it huffed out of her mouth. The adrenaline pumped through her veins, urging her to keep running and ignore the searing pain of the cauterized wound on her torso. She had to run and that was the only thought running through her head to the realization that Commander Wolffe had just attempted to open fire on her in the middle of a relief mission.

Where could she go? The streets were flooded with innocent people just trying to line up for the supplies she had brought them. Her thought process wouldn't even go there. She had served for years with Wolffe. There wasn't a single action she could take that he wasn't already thinking of and planning for as she heard the fogged voice of the clones shouting.

What could she do? Wolffe had seen her beat and bloodied from the battles they had gotten into and vise versa. They had seen each other at their worst. He had listened to her as she raised her own concerns about her place in the Jedi Order. He was a glimpse of relief in the horrors she saw on a daily basis now. Her brother. Her best friend. Her confidant. They had never even thought of how to protect against the other. It was the unthinkable for either of them to even attempt to harm the other. Now, he didn't hesitate to shout the order to shoot to kill when she was caught.

She was at a dead end as the crowd fizzled out. The dead end spilt into one of three alley ways between the buildings in the cul-de-sac. She had to choose. Which route would give her the best possible chance of survival? Which route wouldn't let Wolffe make that impossible choice of killing her in cold blood?

Mara stilled for a moment, looking back to the crowd as they spilt for the clones running through. Think, she screamed at herself, trying to cut through the fog that had overcome her. A deep and shaky breath was taken before she ran forwards, clipping the sabers on her belt as she ran to the alleyway to her left. She had to make the choice and she had to live or die with it. No matter what, she wouldn't let Wolffe be the one to take the shot that killed her. She wouldn't live on but he would. All she could think about was the guilt that would crush him if he killed her. If he lived on with her blood on his hands.
