The Time I Gave Some "Advice"

I would like to say that today was uneventful, but I won't because that it would not be entirely accurate. Sure, it wasn't what I would call an "action-packed" day, but it was a day that was okay, so yeah!

All the Grade 7's had some workshop with Ms. I today, so we grade 8's had Ms. S for the whole day. Jack, who sits next to me, cursed "our luck," since we had the whole day in one class. But I, being the optimistic person I am, reminded him that it could have been worse - we could have been stuck with Ms. I instead. Now don't get me wrong - I like Ms. I. I just like Ms. S a tad better. Maybe it's because I don't especially like coffee. (Comment Ms. I's line if you get it). Jack agreed with my point, which is rare, but I think all the students share the same opinion about Ms. I.

We were doing Science presentations for the first two periods, but only 4 groups got to go : Raven and Hailey, Jennifer, Derek and Hertz, and Jo and Lila (I may have forgotten some...sorry). They were rather interesting, and I kept making faces at Raven. I thought I was distracting her, but it turns out I was calming her nerves. Yay me.

During this time, though, I kept switching seats for no apparent reason. You ever have that feeling you've been sitting down in one spot for too long? Well that's what happened to me. No matter which way I turned my body or crossed my legs, I was still uncomfortable. So I moved.

Before this though, Fernando came and joined our table. Derek was in front of our table, and Jennifer was too. Paige came and sat with Justin, so our table only had Paige, Justin, and me. When Fernando came, he went a sat next to Justin to ask for "advice." What kind of advice? "Love advice."

He needed help with Riley, since he was quite into her. They began whispering and writing stuff down, and I made series of faces at Paige to try to understand what was going on, but I couldn't really. It was getting rather boring watching them, so I moved to another table that was right next to me. Ms. S heard me, and she gave me "the look," but she didn't say anything.

After that presentation, Pierce came along and told me that I was sitting in his spot. I got up and moved to the other side of the same table. I was playing with Raven's ring when Fernando came up and sat next to me. He began asking Raven and me for advice about how he should button his shirt. Honestly Fernando, chill.

He was wondering whether it looked better buttoned all the way up or left open. Raven said buttoned was her personal preference, but I told him it really depended on the occasion. He demanded an answer, but I didn't have one! So instead, I smirked and said, "Why don't you go ask Riley?" I guess he was pretty frustrated, because he threw up and hands and said," But Riley's the one I'm trying to impress!"

It was rather amusing...until Ms. S paused after another presentation to address the class. She didn't sound too happy. She turned to Fernando and I, who were both sitting in places we shouldn't have been sitting at. "I don't know why Hope and Fernando are playing musical chairs," she said. I got up sheepishly and returned to my proper seat, as did Fernando.

For the rest of that period, I sat in my assigned seat, tallying the amount of speech mistakes the presenters made. On my math folder. I really had nothing to do.

Indoor recess came along, since it was raining. I went back to the "interesting" table, where Natalia and Melissa were practicing their upcoming presentation. Riley was too, but Erin, her partner, had gone home because she wasn't feeling well. Riley got up and left soon, and so did Natalia and Melissa. When they had gone, Fernando came back and sat down again. Why? You guessed it - he wanted "advice."

He said he wanted to be in our "squad" - or "quad

"What squad?" I asked.

"Your girls' squad."

"Well you can't be in "girls" squad if you're not a girl, now can you?"

"Then how come Justin gets to be in it?"

"Justin's not in it either!"

I don't even know. I guess he thought that to date Riley, he had to get all of our approvals first. Well, I can't argue with that. He probably does.

Anyways, he asked me again for "advice."

"WHAT ADVICE?!"

"I don't know."

I took a deep breath.

"Okay, Fernando. What would you like to know?"

"I don't know. Advise me."

"ABOUT WHAT?!"

So much for being cool and collected... Well, can you blame me? I mean, look how difficult this guy is being!

I thought about what I could tell him, and I told him that to get our approval, he has to do a few things. First, he can't say crap about feminism, since there are a lot of guys in our grade who ridicule that. He agreed, saying he didn't really care about that stuff anyways. Next, I told him to not diss the music we listen to. By this time, Tom had arrived and was sitting next to Fernando, listening in. Fernando declared that he "wouldn't listen to no Satanic music for Riley."

If you say so, Fernando.

That was pretty much all I could think to say, really. I had no idea how to advise this guy. So, I just wished him luck and left.

The rest of the day was okay, I suppose. I started a "hangout" on paper with Derek and Justin, but Derek kept "kicking me out," so I gave up. We had a mass gym period with all the Grade 8's - Ms. S's class vs. Ms. I's class in dodgeball. It was pretty fun.

The only other thing worth talking about was at the very end of the day when we were packing up to go. I left the classroom carrying my stuff, talking to Shane as I went. He had a Gatorade bottle in his hand that was filled with water (I think...I HOPE) and he was spraying a little at me with each step. I tried to block it, but he came around to the other side. I reached my locker, and although his locker was way back he stayed around my locker to harass Reno, who had a locker next to mine. He began spraying Reno, who began swatting Shane. It was rather funny. Eventually, I turned to my locker to finish packing my bag. I assumed Shane had left and was doing the same.

Suddenly I felt a cold wet feeling on my neck, which trickled down my shoulder, my back, and my chest. I (accidentally) let out a blood curdling scream at the top of my lungs and fell on the ground. No, I wasn't hurt - I was laughing/crying. I don't know.

All I know was that the entire hallway fell silent and turned to look at me as I practically rolled with laugh/crying. It was quite embarrassing. A couple teachers even stepped out of their classrooms to see what was going on. Reno was also dying with laughter, although he admitted to me later that he may need to purchase ear plugs if I was going to scream like that again. I was surprised to find Shane back at his locker, innocently packing away. That beast...
