This plane came in for a landing yesterday, which was the last day of school for Hope. She recounts the tale here:
The last day of school. It was finally here. Not that I wanted it to arrive. The closer it inched (or centimetred, since I'm Canadian), the more worried and scared and upset I got. I know people keep telling me that it's another chapter of the book over, but as far as I'm concerned, the past three years have definitely been the best part of the book. I want to read it over and over again, but I know that will make it hurt more. Okay, I need to get out of the metaphor.
The morning of, my dad kind of taunted me, saying, "This is the last time I'll drop you off here." I kind of whacked him, but it sunk in even more. This is the last day.
When I arrived at the back of the school, there were a few people there. Paige, for one, had her camera with her. After all, it was a momentous occasion. We took a couple of pictures, as did I (on my phone).
Hayden and I have this thing with a kid that comes by on his bike every morning. He looks like he's about 2 or 3, and his sister is in Kindergarten. Well, we are kind of really obsessed with him. And being the last day to see him, I may or may not have taken a picture of him. Okay, so maybe I took a couple, but the point here is that I won't be doing anything with them. Except maybe send them to Hayden.
The bell finally rang, and Paige and I made a point of stepping into the school like it mattered, because I said 'it was the last time we would be going up those stairs with our bags on.' Cheesy, I know, but real. We walked through the hall like we owned the place, just because we could. It was great.
We went to homeroom first, to do attendance for the last time. Wait, there was still the afternoon... Nevermind.
We spent the morning cleaning up yesterday's graduation stuff and setting up for the assembly. We also took a lot of pictures.
Period 3 was the assembly that we didn't get to finish last time, because we didn't get to see the slide show. Ms.D, the principal said a few words about how much they would miss the graduates, but from her tone, I could tell she couldn't wait to get rid of us. Oh well, I never liked her much anyways. No one really does - not even my mom.
After her 'moving words,' she announced some of the teachers who were leaving. Among them was Ms.Shaw, and by the sound of it, the grade 7s couldn't wait to get rid of her.
On a sadder note, the vice principal, Ms. A was also leaving - retiring, in fact. Ms.A was honestly an amazing VP, and I just hope the grade 7s get a good VP next year (not like Ms.K).
She made a short speech, in which she ended up crying. But before that, the whole school joined her in singing 'Happy' by Pharell Williams. People were dancing too, but I wasn't down for that. TURN DOWN FOR WHAT?! (Cue music)
For lunch, the girls had a picnic planned at the park, but since it was kind of last minute (ahem, Paige), not a lot of food was brought. Still, Paige brought her blanket and her speaker, so we got to play some good music. We also got a great show, since the Squad was there dancing. Raven and Erin also danced for some of them. Riley and Natalia joined them in dancing to 'Eye of the Tiger.' Squad danced behind them, following their moves. I'm sure it was an honour for them. I think I neglected to mention that all the girls had matching tie dye shirts made at Paige's birthday party.
Yup, that was a thing. We played several other songs, including the tear inducing 'Graduation Song.' Bree came by to give Jo and I and hug since we were not going to WCI, and then retreated to somewhere, I don't know where.
