Techno POV
The woman opened the door, revealing the room inside. It was much similar to the room he had woken up in, the only difference being the yellow walls. Relief spread through the pinkette as he spotted his brothers asleep on the bed.
Tommy was clinging to Wilbur, still looking pale but a little bit better. Techno sat beside Wilbur, combing his fingers through the boy's messy hair. Wilbur relaxed at his touch, remaining asleep.
The woman smiled at the scene. "I told Phil not to separate you three, but when does he ever listen?"
Techno looked up at the woman, "Thank you... um?"
"Kristin." the woman introduced. "How about I make you three some food?" At Techno's nod, she questioned, "Anything in particular?"
Techno's stomach growled, much to his embarrassment. "Anything is fine." he said quietly, feeling it was rude to say otherwise.
Kristin left the room, a small skip in her step.
Techno turned to his brothers, glad they were safe. He allowed himself to relax on the bed. He was still reluctant to trust these people, but at least they weren't on the streets. Anything was better than that.
He gently combed his fingers through Wilbur's hair, untangling the mix of knots within it. The brunette leaned into his touch, slowly waking up. "Techno?" he murmured, squinting up at him.
The older hummed in response. "I'm here."
Wilbur yawned, glancing down at Tommy with a smile. He didn't move a muscle, knowing Tommy needed his rest more than any of them. "Where are we?"
"Somewhere safe... for now." Techno replied, hoping it was true. He didn't trust them completely, but he had no reason to think they would harm them. He trusted Kristin at least a little bit.
"Home?"
Techno looked at him, a hint of sadness in his eyes. He wished it was. He wished everything could go back to how it used to be, when they were all a happy family. But dreaming it didn't make it a reality. "No Wil, not home. Just somewhere to stay for now." He explained, unaware of the shattering hearts outside.
Wilbur went quiet for a moment, thinking of the right words to say. But Tommy woke up before he could manage to get the words out. Immediately the conversation ended with a wave of uncontrollable coughing.
The blonde sat up, trying and failing to cough away from the older two. Wilbur rubbed his back while Techno ran to get water. Luckily, Kristin didn't ask questions, simply giving him the glass and allowing him to run back to his brother. He offered it to the boy, not noticing Phil behind him.
The man went to Tommy's side, nearly scaring the living daylights out of Techno. He had a spoon in his hand along with medicine. "He needs some more medicine." He said simply, glancing towards Techno for approval.
Techno reluctantly nodded, hating that he was forced to trust the man for his little brother's sake. But one look at Tommy made all his worries overtake his distrust.
Phil offered a small spoonful of medicine, watching the boy take it with a shaky hand. He gulped it down before nuzzling back into Wilbur and falling asleep again.
The man stood up again, making his way out of the room. He was barely a step out of earshot when he heard Techno.
"Thank you." It was soft, barely audible. Techno had a hard time saying those words, though he knew they needed to be said. Sighing, he turned back to Wilbur who was looking around the room in awe.
"We haven't been in a room this nice since Mom left... When we went on that trip to Minnesota." the brunette said, sadness laced in his tone. He wrapped an arm around Tommy, running his fingers through the boy's golden locks.
"You remember that?" Techno asked, surprised since he had been so long.
"Yeah, that's when you got grounded... And they wouldn't let me play with you."
The older chuckled, knowing the exact set of days he was thinking of. "Do you remember why?" he questioned, curious if he actually knew the reason. It had been so long, even his memory of it was fading.
"No." Wilbur replied, lost in thought. "I don't remember that part." he admitted.
Techno smiled, "A few days before we left for the trip, Tommy accidently broke your guitar. You were so mad about it that you wouldn't talk to him at all. The poor boy tried so hard to redeem himself, but it never seemed to be enough to satisfy you. You wouldn't do anything with him." He looked towards the sick blonde, remembering the long nights with him. "He would cry to me every night."
"Yeah I remember that." Wilbur nodded, laughing at how ridiculous he had been. "But what does that have to do with you getting in trouble?"
"Well, you wouldn't talk to Tommy at all. So he would literally follow you everywhere, to the point where you were actually hiding from him. You actually got quite creative, eventually climbing a tree to hide from him. Problem is, he followed you. He climbed all the way to the top and you started to climb down. As soon as you reached the bottom, you pretty much abandoned him. The only reason I ran outside was because I heard his cries. He was terrified and he didn't know what to do. I tried to coach him down, but the branch he was hanging on to, snapped. He plummeted to the ground and ended up breaking his arm."
Wilbur's eyes went wide, freaked out by the fact that he couldn't remember this. "That really happened?"
Techno nodded, confirming his fears. "You felt awful after that, wouldn't leave his side for the rest of the trip. So I ended up taking the blame for it."
"Why would you do that?"
"It was an accident. Besides, I'd rather have the punishment than you. That was-" he paused, swallowing. "That was one of the first times he got violent."
Wilbur looked at him, the tears filling his eyes. "I'm sorry Tech... you shouldn't have taken the blame."
Techno smiled, shaking his head. "I don't regret it," he whispered, wrapping an arm around the younger. "I'd do it again."
