Techno POV
"Come on Tommy!" Techno groaned, tightening his grip on the boy's arm. The blonde wouldn't let go of Kristin, fighting with every bit of strength he had. Techno was surprised how long the boy could hold on.
"I don't want to go!" Tommy cried, the tears streaming down his face at rapid speeds. "I want to stay here forever!"
"Tommy-" Techno began, wishing there was some way to make this easier.
"Don't make me leave!" the blonde pleaded, looking up at Kristin with his bright blue eyes. He wasn't ready to let go.
The brunette tugged harder, finally managing to pull Tommy with him. The blonde burst into tears, his hand still reaching for Kristin. Techno dragged the boy towards the door with Wilbur dragging his feet behind him.
Kristin and Phil looked after them, both resisting the urge to grab them back. "Our door will always be open." Kristin promised, blinking away her tears.
Wilbur turned back towards them. "Thank you-"
"We won't need it." Techno interrupted, his grip still tight on Tommy. Without even waving, he lead his brothers into the cruel world. He was doing the right thing, keeping them safe. At least that's what he told himself. They were always better on their own.
His feet took him back to their old home. The alley filled with what was left of their old stuff. Most of it was dirty beyond repair, the stench of rain soaked into it. Kristin had been kind enough to allow them to have their extra blankets and clothes. They could have done without it, but Techno would be stupid to refuse the supplies.
As their base came into view, Tommy finally quieted. Techno looked down at him. He had never seen him look so heartbroken before. Wilbur gently grabbed the blonde, pushing past the older. He was silent, but his glare said it all.
Techno sighed, "I'm going to get food, I'll be home soon." He waited for a response, but nothing came. Shaking his head, he turned on his heel and headed towards the market.
It was same as weeks before, filled with people desperate to sell anything and everything. Biting his lip, he realized he would have to start stealing again. He had forgotten the weight of taking care of his brothers.
Taking a deep breath, he studied the shops, looking for the perfect opportunity. It took only a moment for him to spot it. A shop owner busy with a buyer. With a swift movement, he fought against the hesitation in his body. Since when did he hesitate? Grabbing the bread, he walked away.
Guilt pooled in his stomach, much to his surprise. Why did it feel so heavy? Techno ripped a part of the bread, shoving in his mouth in the hopes that maybe he was hungry.
It was so tasteless, more bland that Techno had ever remembered. Did the bread get worse? No, that wouldn't make sense...
His eyes drifted towards the sky, a sinking feeling in his chest.
Did he make the right choice?
