Kaidan's POV
I paced around the room, my footsteps echoing off the walls. Swarnalekha sat on the bed, her sulking expression a stark contrast to her usual radiance. Her eyes were swollen, a testament to her tears.
I stopped in front of her, holding out my hand. "Take it."
She flinched, her eyes flashing fear. My irritation spiked.
I opened my palm, revealing two small pills. "Your medicine.Take them."
Her gaze dropped, but she didn't move.
I handed her a glass of milk. "Drink this."
She refused, turning her face away. I sighed, grasping her chin."Bacha, don't be stubborn. Drink it."
She gurgled in protest as I held her chin firm, forcing her to swallow the milk."Take the pills," I ordered, placing them in her hand. "If you don't, you'll be in pain."
Her eyes snapped open, blazing with anger. She yanked my hand from her chin.
"Don't touch me," she spat.
I smiled, grasping her fisted hand. "I can't just hold hands with you.I want more."
Her eyes widened as my hand snaked through her hair, my fingers tracing her face."I've heard being affectionate with your pregnant wife keeps the baby healthy," I whispered, my breath caressing her ear.
Her eyes closed tightly, but I saw the tremble in her lips.
"Now you want to force me, using the baby as an excuse?" she accused, her voice trembling.
"You misunderstand me. By affectionate, I meant hugging, holding hands... innocent gestures."
Her face flushed, and she opened her mouth to retort, but Surima burst into the room, saving her from my teasing.
"Didi! Jiju!" Sh exclaimed, before noticing our intimate pose.
I took advantage of the moment, wrapping my arms around Swarnalekha, pulling her close.
Surima's eyes widened, and she apologized, "Sorry, didi, jiju. I didn't mean to interrupt."
I smiled, releasing her from my grasp. "No need to apologize. We were just...reconciling."
Swarnalekha's narrowed eyes told me she wasn't buying my act.
"Didi, you know our school sports festival is coming up? They have events for families to participate together."She continued, "Every year, you've been my partner, didi. But this year...with your pregnancy..."
I seized the opportunity, offering a charming smile. "I'll be your partner kiddo.I'd love to."
I felt a suspicious glare on me.
Surima squealed, oblivious to the tension. "Really, jiju? Thank you!"
I grinned, triumphant. "It'll be fun. We'll make a great team."
When she skipped out of the room, I called after her, "Eat well and sleep tight. We'll start practicing for the sports festival from tomorrow."
Her giggles echoed down the hallway, leaving Swarnalekha and me alone once more.
Her eyes narrowed, suspicion etched on her face. "What are you planning?"
"Just trying to be a supportive brother-in-law."
"Why are you involving yourself with my innocent sister so much? You're using her, aren't you?"
"Surima's not just your sister. She's my family too. I want to help her, be there for her like a brother."
