Two days after Toothless' birthday, Shimmer was planning to meet up with Stormfly, who wanted advice on her relationship with Jasper. "Hey, Your Highness," Stormfly said as she landed in her den. "Hi Stormfly," Shimmer replied. "How are you?" Stormfly asked. "I'm doing well. How are you?" Shimmer asked her back. "I'm pretty good. I do have a bit of a problem, though," she replied with her head down. "What's your problem?" Shimmer asked kindly. "I don't know how to tell Jasper how I feel about him. That, and I'm scared that I'll only drive him away if I tell him," she replied. "Stormfly, that's a perfectly normal way to feel. I'd say that it would be a good idea to take things slow with Jasper, you know? Get to know him a little better, that sort of thing," Shimmer said calmly. "You know how us Nadders do things. We're all about speed and agility," Stormfly said. "I know that, and I can't make you do anything that you don't want to do," Shimmer said. "Thanks for the help, Your Highness. I think I'll just take things one day at a time and see what happens," Stormfly said in response. "Okay. Well, I should probably head back to my den. See you soon," Shimmer replied, heading off to her den.

Toothless was off exploring the Hidden World, since it was still mostly undiscovered. He hadn't found much that was different from the rest of the Hidden World, but he was still looking, wanting to know every area of his home. To his surprise, he nearly collided with a dragon he'd never met before. "Whoa!" He said in surprise. "I'm sorry! I didn't see you coming!" The other dragon, a female, replied. "It's alright. What's your name?" Toothless asked her. "Nicole. My name's Nicole. You must be Toothless," she said. "Yeah, that's me. I want to see everything in the Hidden World," he said. "That makes sense, Your Majesty. That way you're familiar with your whole kingdom," Nicole said, and Toothless flinched again, still not used to the formal title. "Yeah, that's my thinking. That way I don't get lost," he said. "Well, I'll let you keep going. See you around," Nicole said with a small smile as she flew away.

After a few weeks, Toothless decided to return home, since he had been away for so long. He waited for Shimmer to go to Stormfly's den before he landed in his den, wanting to surprise Shimmer when she returned. Sure enough, when she saw him, she jumped, not expecting him to be home yet. "I wasn't expecting you to be back yet, my love," she said. "That's why I wanted to surprise you," he replied. "Well, I appreciate the surprise," she said with a smile. "I met a new dragon pretty early on while I was gone. Her name's Nicole, and she's a Monstrous Nightmare," Toothless said. "I'd love to meet her sometime," Shimmer replied. "She said that she might come by and visit us next time she's in the area. How are things going with Stormfly, by the way?" He asked. "Pretty good. She's taking my advice and getting to know Jasper better before she tells him how she feels about him," Shimmer said. Toothless nodded in acknowledgment, then sneezed rather violently. "Are you alright?" Shimmer asked him, worry beginning to seep into her voice. "Yeah. I feel great," he said, smiling at her. She decided to let the matter drop for the time being, but she did tell him that she was going to take precautions in case he was sick.

After a few days, Toothless had gotten worse, and Shimmer was really starting to worry about him. Stormfly had come by a few times to check on his condition, and she was able to figure out that Toothless had a disease that was highly lethal to most species of dragons if left untreated for too long, and she didn't have all of the materials she needed to cure him. She could keep his condition stable for a short time, and she needed another dragon to find the missing materials she needed, for she had to stay with Toothless. Shimmer decided to get the materials for Stormfly, which consisted of some seawater, an eel, and some primroses. Due to this, Shimmer would have to leave the Hidden World. Thankfully, she knew who might be able to assist her.

On New Berk, Hiccup was helping Gobber deliver some new weapons to some of the villagers to use to defend themselves from enemies. He thought he saw a shimmering light approaching the village, but he shook it off as a trick of the light. "What's that, glittering in the distance?" Astrid asked as she passed him, making him look at the shimmering light again. "I don't know, but I don't think it's dangerous," Hiccup said. It was then that he noticed a something that glowed a soft shade of blue, and upon watching it for a few minutes, realized that it was Shimmer, Toothless' mate. "It's Shimmer," he said. "No way. Really?" Astrid asked in disbelief. "Yeah, it's really her," he replied. Shimmer landed in front of them, and Hiccup could tell right away that she was worried, and needed help. Since she knew that she couldn't communicate with them like she could with the other dragons, she used a paw to draw simple pictures of a wave, an eel, and a rose. "I think she's looking for something," Hiccup said, then he and Astrid began to examine what Shimmer had drawn to figure out what her drawings meant. "I think she wants us to help her get seawater, an eel, and some primroses," Astrid said, and Shimmer nodded. "I can get the primroses and the eel," Hiccup said. "I'll get the seawater. Should we meet back here?" Astrid asked, and Hiccup agreed.

Shimmer laid down in the sun, whimpering softly as she thought about Toothless. She hoped that she could return home in time to save him, and she looked out at the horizon wistfully. When Hiccup and Astrid returned with everything that Shimmer needed, she took the bucket of water with the eel in it in her mouth by the handle, and took a separate bucket with the primroses in one of her paws. She smiled at the pair to thank them for their help before she left to return to the Hidden World.

When she delivered the materials to Stormfly, she got to work making a cure for Toothless before feeding it to him and telling Shimmer to keep her updated on how he was doing. "Thank you so much, Stormfly. I don't know how to repay you," she said. "Don't worry about it. I'm just helping out some friends," Stormfly replied, leaving for her den. Shimmer looked at Toothless fondly, still not wanting to get too close to him, but she knew that he'd understand why she didn't want to get too close to him just yet.
