After nearly a month, Toothless was finally back to normal, which greatly pleased Shimmer. Stormfly, on the other hand, had been spending even more time with Jasper, and she had decided that it was time for her to tell him how she felt. "Hey Stormfly," he said, flying into her den. "Hey Jasper. I was just about to leave to talk to you," she said. "I came to talk to you," he said. "You can go first," she said. "Nah. Ladies first," he said. "Okay... I love you," she said softly. "I love you too," he replied, gently nuzzling her snout. "Thank goodness. I'm glad we feel the same way about each other," she said. "Me too," he said.

Toothless had been resting when Shimmer came into the den, and she gently nudged him awake. "Hey. What's up?" He asked her. "I've been doing some thinking lately, and I'd really like to start helping Stormfly out at the nursery," she said. "This is new. Besides, I thought you were kind of scared of kids," he replied. "I never said that I was scared of kids. It's more like I'm scared of hurting them somehow, but I'm trying to work on getting over that fear, in the event that we have kids of our own," she said, and while Toothless understood where his mate was coming from, he also sensed that there was more to it. "There's more to it than that, isn't there?" He asked her. "And what makes you think that?" She asked him sharply. "Well, we have been trying for kids for a while now," he said, and Shimmer gave him a look of confusion at first, then her eyes widened. "That would explain why I've been wanting to build a nest lately... do you really think it could be possible?" She asked him. "Anything is possible, really," Toothless said, nuzzling Shimmer's side. "I suppose you're right. Well, either way, I think I'd better get going. I told Stormfly that I'd meet up with her soon," she said, nuzzling Toothless' shoulder. "Have fun," he replied simply. With that, Shimmer took flight, heading for the dragon nursery.

On the way to the nursery, Shimmer had some time to contemplate how to tell her mate that he was to be a father. She had learned of her pregnancy a few weeks prior, but she hadn't found the right time to break the news to Toothless yet, and she wasn't sure how she was going to do it. She considered asking a few of the mothers who were at the nursery regularly about how they had told their mates that they were going to be parents, then decided that she could figure it out for herself. When she arrived at the nursery, Stormfly was busy entertaining some of the cubs, so Shimmer decided to observe for a bit. Once Stormfly was done entertaining the cubs, she joined Shimmer, observing the cubs from a short distance. "Children are so precious, don't you think?" Stormfly asked. "Yeah, they sure are. I've always worried that I'll hurt them somehow, but if I have the same fear when I have my own cubs, I'll be terrified of touching them," Shimmer said. "Yes, which wouldn't be healthy for them either," Stormfly replied. "So, what can I help you out with?" Shimmer asked. "I was actually thinking maybe you could just observe today, you know? Just to see what all you have to do," Stormfly said. "That makes sense. After all, I wouldn't want to mess up and hurt someone else's kid. That would not be very good for me," Shimmer replied. "No, it really wouldn't. There is nothing quite like the fury of a mother whose child is threatened," Stormfly agreed. She told Shimmer that she was going to tell the dragonets a story, so Shimmer went to lay down behind them. She noticed that one of them, a Deadly Nadder, kept looking at her curiously, almost like it wanted to talk to her, but didn't know if it could or should. "Hello, little one," she said softly. "Hi," the Nadder replied quietly. "What's your name?" She asked. "Hela," the Nadder answered, tilting her head. "It's nice to meet you, Hela. My name is Shimmer," Shimmer said with a kind smile. Hela's eyes widened as her brain registered who she was talking to. "It's nice to meet you too, Your Highness," she said, trying to bow, but only managing to topple over forward. Shimmer gently nudged Hela back up with her snout, and the Nadder thanked her kindly.

Toothless was looking out at his kingdom when he noticed a familiar Monstrous Nightmare approaching. "Hey Hookfang. It's been a while since I last saw you," he said. "That it has, Your Highness. How have you been?" Hookfang asked him. "Well, other than when I almost died from a deadly disease, I've been pretty good," Toothless replied. "I heard about that. You look the same as usual, so I'm guessing you recovered," Hookfang said. "You would be correct. I felt truely terrible for a few weeks, but I'm all better now," he said, just as another familiar Monstrous Nightmare showed up. "Nicole! It's been a little while since I last saw you! How've you been?" Toothless asked when she landed. "Pretty well, yourself?" She asked him, and he gave her the same answer that he'd given Hookfang. "Well, it's good to see that you're all healthy," she said. "You've met before?" Hookfang asked. "Yeah, we met when I was exploring the Hidden World," Toothless replied, just as Shimmer arrived beside him, looking rather tired. "Hello, Your Highness," Hookfang said, bowing to her. "Hello Hookfang," she panted. "This must be the lovely Shimmer," Nicole said, and Shimmer simply nodded. "I'm Nicole. It's a pleasure to meet you, Your Majesty," she said. "It's nice to meet you too, Nicole. I'm sorry you had to see me like this," Shimmer replied. "You look beautiful anyway, Your Majesty," Nicole replied with a toothy smile. She and Hookfang left soon after, since it was clear that Toothless was concerned about his mate. "Shimmer, are you okay? You look exhausted," he said. "That's probably because I feel exhausted. I'm going to go lay down for a while," she replied, entering their den and curling up on the floor. He followed her inside and laid beside her, wondering why she was so exhausted when the nursery wasn't far from their den. "I know what you're going to ask me. I just need a minute to gather myself," Shimmer said, giving him a look that almost seemed sad, which confused him. "It's not something bad, is it?" He asked her after a few minutes. "No, it's nothing bad. It's really good, actually. I would have told you sooner, but you still weren't feeling completely better yet, and I didn't want to get too close, just in case," she said, and Toothless gave her a nod of understanding. "You can take as long as you need to before you tell me," he said. "No, no. I need to just come out and say it. It's been long enough as it is," she said, then took a deep breath before she said the words that would change their lives.

"Toothless, you're going to be a father."
