Basketball game

Almost two months had passed since the ill-fated new year. The cold began to recede outside, but to show up in my relationship with Mary.

After New Year's Eve we had a big fight about the way Mary had behaved at the party and all the time she was trying to make amends and I kind of forgave her. But there was a note of tension in our relationship.

I mean, we had a really big fight that time. So much so that we did not quarrel anymore, if there was a conflict situation, one of us just conceded or made a compromise. Probably deep in our hearts we both understood that one more quarrel like this our relationship just could not withstand, and would fall apart like a house of cards.

So we were very careful with each other. Other than that, everything was fine. Together with my friend I started taking courses for future lawyers. At first I just went to try it, and with her for company, but I was really carried away by it, and now I went with pleasure.

Plus I've made lot of new acquaintances with interesting people, who in addition were very far from all this celebrity crowd, and I could tell that time spent with them definitely had a positive effect on me.

Calm, regular life was much more familiar to me. Olivia was connected to showbiz, and so was Conan (but I met him thanks to Olivia) so if we hung out together we often had some celebrity with us. But now I didn't hang out with Olivia, and Conan, who I was still in close contact with, and couldn't stand those kinds of celebrity gatherings, so I somehow became "living my normal life" all by myself.

So my life was perfectly calm and stable, and I was fine with that. I had had enough of the emotional swings last year.

"So, what time are we meeting tomorrow?" I asked Mary on the phone.

"I'm so sorry I can't make it tomorrow"

"What do you mean? I thought you said you could."

"My stupid school. I have an assignment I have to do, so I can't keep you company."

"Yes, I keep forgetting, sorry. Of course, I understand. Then I'll leave you to it, bye" I said and passed out.

I looked out the window. We were supposed to go to the basketball game Olivia had invited us to. I wouldn't have gone there but our mutual friends would be there so it would be a little weird if I didn't show up. For everyone, Olivia and I are 'broken up but still friends' but we're not, even though we keep pretending like we're okay.

Olivia is on tour now, so we don't see each other much, which is probably for the best.

The next day.

I walked up to the part of the arena where we had seats and immediately noticed Olivia and her group discussing something.

"Hey guys!" I said hello as I approached them.

"Y/n! Hi!" Olivia smiled at me. Those who don't know her would say that she's smiling sincerely and really happy to see me but I did, and she showed me that the smile was fake and just to be polite "this is my band, you don't know them yet, right?"

"Yes" I nodded.

Olivia introduced me to the whole band and then to the two girls who were also her friends.

I said hello to all of them like a well-mannered girl, but as soon as Olivia and I got a little further away, I hissed angrily:

"Where's Madison? She was supposed to be here"

"She texted that she couldn't make it."

"And Conan?" I asked again, feeling something evil in my back.
