Talking at night

I was sleeping peacefully on the living room couch with Olivia in my arms when suddenly I felt her move.

I think my rapid breathing startled her so that she froze and pretended to be asleep, but I immediately pretended to be fine. Liv, on the other hand, gently took my hand in hers and intertwined our fingers. Her soft skin, the warmth of our bodies. I smiled and heard a whisper

"Did I wake you up?

"Only just a little," I replied, splitting my eyes "what time is it?"

"Three o'clock in the morning."

"Why can't you sleep?" I asked, settling down next to Olivia on a nearby pillow.

She looked thoughtfully at our intertwined fingers and said

"Like nothing has changed. You're my best friend who asks what's wrong when I'm suddenly start to overthink in the middle of the night"

"Yeah. Does that scare you?"

I lifted my head, leaning on my elbow and looked at Liv

"No, why would it? Im very happy with how things turned out. I dont know how much of your shitty 30 years boyfriends I would watch again and again"

"If we've discussed everything, how do you like the idea of going to bed?"

"Great," Liv covered us with the blanket, "can you hug me?"

"I'd love to" I replied, hugging her back and burying my face in her hair.I felt her body gradually relax when she fell asleep, and then I fell asleep too.
