As he brought out the tills, he looked to his left and saw her coming out from the fridge.
He pushed the door open with his foot, but stood there for a moment, holding the door open, knowing she'd be following him in.
"Thanks" she smiled. He nodded.
As he put the cash drawers into the registers, he saw her smiling at him.
"When did you do that?"
"Do what?"
"Bring everything in the fridge down onto the lower shelves."
He blushed a little. "Oh, um, yesterday."
"You came in on your day off to rearrange the fridge so I could reach everything?"
He froze. When she put it like that, it made it sound really fucking thoughtful.
He frantically tried to think of an excuse. "Um... yeah... I mean, it makes sense. Cause like... If we're busy, we'd have to get one of us to come help you. And also, health and safety."
She raised an eyebrow at him. "And here I was thinking you were just being thoughtful."
He laughed. "Me? Nah. I'm an arsehole, remember?"
Tammy laughed. "Yeah, yeah. Right-o."
They prepped everything in comfortable silence.
"I like your tattoos, by the way."
He blushed. "Thanks"
"What does... okay. Let me try. Jakoś to będzie mean."
He burst out laughing. "Not even close "
She giggled. "I said let me try , not let me impress you with my Polish "
He raised an eyebrow at her. "How'd you know it was Polish then?"
She blushed furiously. He waited for an answer.
"For both our sakes, let's say lucky guess . Now how do you say it and what does it mean?"
He laughed, pronouncing it properly, like ya-kosh toe ben-jay . Closest translation's probably like, 'Everything will work out in the end.' But it's not passive like it is in English. It's more... control what you can control, and let go of the things you can't .
She nodded. "I like that."
They were silent for a little while longer. He chuckled. "Not gonna have a go at the other one?"
She laughed. "Alright, show us then."
It sat a little higher on his other arm. He rolled up his sleeve, and Tammy couldn't help but shudder a little at how incredible his arms looked.
Tammy looked at it, giggling. "Okay. Um... sizas, lessy, rainy?"
He laughed loudly. "Oh my god, that was awful ."
She hit his arm. "We've already established I can't speak Polish!"
He felt his heart warming a little, pronouncing it correctly for her. Chas leh-cheh, rar-ney.
"Time heals all wounds" she said, obviously without thinking.
He burst out laughing, furrowing his brow at her, and she immediately blushed.
"Did you google translate my tattoos ?"
She laughed hysterically, trying to hide her face.
"You did!"
