The night before was too good for today to not be a good day. Tommy had a great meal with her family and friends. She had a nice long emotional talk with the best friend she ever had. She even decided to call her four year long crush quits.
So why did her day go to shit in a matter on minutes?
"Hey!" a voice spoke loudly, ringing throughout the hallway gaining the attention of anyone who was standing there. Tommy looked around to find the source of the familiar voice until her gaze found the tall teen boy she fancies. He looked so nice that she didn't realize he was walking towards her until he was standing right next to her locker across from where she stood.
"H-Hey!" She squealed out, covering it with a small smile, unsure of why he was talking to her. After yesterday she was sure they would never speak again. She couldn't understand why he would talk to her now, not to mention start a conversation.
"Don't you think this is a little sad? What are we, twelve?" He said plainly. Her smile faded.
"I'm sorry?" She asked stumbling to put her backpack in her open locker.
"The Love letters are a bit dated for my taste, so was your little delivery man." He said a bit louder than needed, gaining the attention of students in the halls. Tomorrow was growing even more confusion by the second as she turned to face him.
"What are you talking about?" She took a step back from him only for Beckham to step closer as his right hand reached behind him.
He pulled out a familiar pale blue paper from his pocket. Tomorrow could feel her heart drop into her stomach. She felt sick and her head felt too light for comfort. She snatched the paper out of his hands, unintentionally crushing it in her grip.
"Where did you get this?" She muttered. Her head hung low as her eyes focused on the floor, counting the tiles as she tried to steady her breathing.
"Do your friends always do your bidding? Or were you just to much of a coward to tell me yourself?" He berated stepped closer to her. Tommy felt her eyes pool with tears that she tried so hard not to shed. A finger under her chin shifted her steady gaze from the ground up to Beckham's dark brown eyes.
"Hear me now. I will never be interested in a girl who can't speak for herself." his voice was sharp. She felt that like a knife in her heart, the final blow causing a tear to fall down her face. As he walking away, she looked behind him seeing several students either laughing or filming her. She looked around at the small crowd and found her two best friends standing amongst them.
MayLin was blocking a few peoples cameras with her arms and hands. NeNe stood looking at Tomorrow in shock. Tommy felt a chill run down her body as she remembered their conversation last night.
He took her letter and gave it to Beckham.
At that realization, she crumpled up the letter even more and throw it in her locker, closing it with a loud slam. She walked away as fast as she could, shoving through the group of people. NeNe shouted her name and rushed after her with MayLin on his tail.
Tommy couldn't help the tears falling down her face. She had never felt so embarrassed in her life. She choked on a sob as she pushed open the door to a small private courtyard in a part of the school no one went to. Her small moment of solace was short lived as NeNe and MayLin followed in not a minute after her.
"Baby I'm sorry!" NeNe apologized quickly. He knew that she knew it was him that gave Beckham the letter. MayLin, however, did not and stood confused.
"You took my letter?" She cried. A hiccup escapes her mouth after she spoke, making him feel even worse for what he did.
"I thought it was for the best!" he tried to explain but was stopped short with MayLin crossing to stand in front of him.
"You gave him the letter?" She questioned, unintentionally giving him an accusing look.
"I thought it would help her settle her crush." He stressed. "She's been in love with him for years. I just wanted to give her a little push. I swear!"
"That wasn't for you to decide! I was fine with the way things were!" Tommy shouted at him.
"You have been obsessing over him for years and you did nothing to see if you two could happen! Sweetie, I'm sorry for what I did, I really am, but now you can move on." his voice got softer at the end. Tommy felt enraged just from looking at her friend, so much so that in her frustration she started crying again.
"Move on? You think I can move on from being publicly humiliated in front of the student body?!" She cries. Tommy started walking backwards, getting as much space from NeNe as she could. Flexing her fists, she tried to gain control of her spiraling emotions.
"You didn't do this for me. You couldn't have stolen my letter, the thing I told you was so important to me and my feelings, and given it to him, because you cared about me!" she pointed a finger at him.
NeNe felt horrible. He only wanted to help her get an answer to her confession or at the very least some closer. He didn't know that Beckham would do that to her, let alone in front of a crowd of students. Seeing Tommy cry this hard broke a piece of hun. This was the first time he had ever seen her cry, and to know that he caused it made him hate himself.
"Tomorrow, I'm so sorry!" He repeated over and over. He had only said her full name in serious situations which was very rare. Tommy shook her head, wiping the tears from her cheeks.
"Fuck you, NeNe." She said lowly and stormed passed the pair. NeNe tried to grab her arm but she snatched away from him. He looked to MayLin, unsure of what he wanted, maybe for help or reassurance, but was met with a disappointed look he had never seen on her before. MayLin followed after Tommy, leaving him alone with his guilt.
