Brittany whipped around and nearly gasped. Maria Lopez was like an older exact replica of Santana. It was freaky.

"Um... She's right here." The blonde stuttered and pointed to the Latina's body.

The woman went up to the bed and gave her daughter a cold stare. She said something in Spanish and then spoke in English, "What an idiot."

"E-excuse me?" Brittany asked, baffled at the woman's words. She didn't seem sad, just angry.

Mrs. Lopez turned to face her. "I had to fly all the way here! I was in the middle of a great time when I got the call. That stupid girl..."

"Wait... What?" Brittany was no longer confused, she was angry too. She was livid. How dare this woman act like Santana was an inconvenience! How dare she insult this incredible girl who was her own daughter!

"Sometimes I wish I never had her!"

"Mrs. Lopez, with all due respect, why are you saying such horrible things?"

Maria gave her a sharp look that made her feel about ten times smaller. "So by your logic she gets to do this to me but I have to feel sorry for her?"

The cheerio furrowed her brow. "What has she done to you?"

"She did this foolish thing-all got a attention!"

Brittany had to clench her fist to keep from slapping Maria. "But she didn't do this to you. She did it to herself..."

"Who are you anyways?"

"I'm her... friend. Brittany Susan Pierce."

"And being her friend makes it okay for you to speak to me this way?"

The blonde was about to respond when Dr. Denman stepped in.

"Mrs. Lopez I think you're a bit upset. Which is perfectly understandable, but poor Brittany has been here all night when you couldn't be here so-"

The woman looked furious. "What, so she's a better person than me?! She knows my daughter better?! She's qualified to speak to me this way!?"

"Hardly. I only meant-"

"I work my butt off for that girl! All I've ever done is sacrifice for her and how does she repay me? By attempting to kill herself for attention!"

"But you don't work at all. Santana told me." Brittany piped up.

Mrs. Lopez raced up to her. "You may not speak to me like that! Shut up you blonde bimbo!"

Brittany remained calm. "You're not a very good mother if you think this was for attention."

She felt a sharp slap across her cheek but gritted her teeth and remained stoic.

"HOW DARE YOU?!" The older woman roared.

"She did this because you were going to let her dad go free."

"What?" Dr. Denman exclaimed. Both ignored him.

"You little lying bitch! I never said that!"

"Yes you did. Don't try and pretend. Santana told me."

"SHE'S A LIAR! She probably even lied about being raped."

Dr. Denman tried again. "Mrs. Lopez, you saw the evidence collected. I've told you before that Santana is not ly-"

"DON'T YOU DARE SAY THAT!" The blonde screamed, finally losing her cool. "Santana is no liar! She has been through so much and you just left her! You're no mother!"

"BITCH! YOU CAN'T SAY THAT TO ME!"

"Well I just did! And I'm gonna say a lot more! I feel sorry that Santana ever had to live with you!

"SHE IS MY DAUGHTER!"

"Maybe biologically but I don't think you really raised her! If you had she would be a lot meaner and more ignorant!"

"HOW CAN YOU SAY THESE THINGS?! I WILL-"

Just then Santana's steadily-beeping heart monitor became frantic. It was beeping faster and faster.

Dr. Denman rushed them out and paged nurses. Five rushed around Santana and shut the door, blocking their vision of the girl.

Brittany stood stunned. What did this mean? This was bad. She knew that. But how bad? Would Santana live? Why had it started beeping like that.

"I don't want you to see my daughter ever again." Mrs. Lopez told her.

"Well thanks to you and her dad none of us might ever see her again. Brittany said, tears beginning to fall. Then she turned and walked down the hallway to the waiting room, leaving the woman standing there.
