2. The Convent

I sighted Anna and I started shouting her name,she turned and squealed when she saw me.

She ran towards me and fell into my arms. She was so exhausted and I couldn't help but laugh because of her facial expression.

'Am so hungry,after all I have used the food we ate for the field work', she complained.

She does this almost everyday,I face palmed..

' you should have been used to this already Anna' I scolded.

'don't start with your afternoon lectures, there's nothing wrong with been hungry. Aren't you hungry too?' she retorted .

'am used to it, eighteen years isn't a joke my dear Anna'i mocked.

'oh please tell the whole convent am seventeen please',Anna said wryly.

I was just a year older than her though but she argues often that it isn't up to a year just a few months which is true but I never acknowledge it . We got to our hostel and parted to our various rooms

Our hostel was a very large one with a lot of rooms. Each room has two occupants and mother Monika ensured that two friends aren't in the same room..

we don't know why but she did it that way. She loathes seeing us chatting or playing away our time and we all took that she demands seriousness from us.

We were all made to wear blue gowns for young ones and green for the elders. The gown was reaching our ankles and we do work with it.we don't have a special work attire.

Mother Monika said it isn't pleasant to expose our body,so we believed and felt so comfortable with the awkward dress we were made to were. We all had our hair put up in buns.

We wouldn't have been recognized if not for our faces and maybe heights. We all dress alike and have the same hairstyle always.

We had different levels in the convent,we have the juveniles, that's age two to eighteen and nineteen to twenty-two were called youths.

No one was less than two years of age in the convent and any one above twenty-two were always taken to another hostel which the juveniles and youths have been warned not to go.

I think that's the rule mother Monika laid down and we've been following it obediently.
The children from age two to seven were always excepted from strenuous activities.

But age five to seven were allocated to pick the convent surroundings and we all saw this as normal and obligatory.

Entering my room,I greeted my roommate, sister Michelle,who is a rather quiet person and talks like she's charged for her words.

I laid on my bed, picking up my Bible and the pamphlet mother Monika gave us the last Sunday service,I read it and was ready for a sleep.

When the bell was rung for Bible lesson and meditation. I felt so pained but still manage to get up and that was when I noticed that my roommate was long gone.

I walked out and closed the door behind me. I and the other sisters were all walking briskly,I knew we were all tired,but who were we to complain or even grumble under the close watch of mother Monika.

Getting to the hall we used for services and prayer,we all took our seats and the sisters sitting with their friends were separated and we were all shared to our various levels.

The sisters above twenty-two years never join us for anything,infact their foods were always taken to them,they don't come to the dinning hall.

We all wished we could reach the level quickly because of the enjoyment they had. They were separated from us, different church and hostel.

After our Bible lessons, questions and answers followed with an hour meditation.

We left after two hours to the dinning hall for dinner and we had plain toasted bread...

Done with our dinner,we all found our ways to our various rooms.

I immediately looked for Anna and bade her goodnight before making way to my room too.
