Two days later...
Celeste edged her way along the concrete wall, scraping her soft cheek against it, every time she stepped. The newspaper she needed was almost within her reaching distance. She reached out, leaning slightly closer to the newspaper rack. She grabbed one shoved it in he jacket while the stall keeper was distracted. Then walked briskly away. Rounding the corner, then checking no one had followed. She sprinted into the forest, dodging between trees, until she reached her belongings.
She pulled out the paper from beneath her jacket, unfolded it and un-crinkled the folded pages. She then started to scan the front page. After five or so minutes she had read all there was to know. Lawrence was in the police station, he hadn't given away her hiding place (but surely would soon), and he was also going to be in jail for a while.
Celeste leaned back on the rickety chair she sat in. She sighed loudly and closed her eyes. She needed a plan, and fast.
At the police station...
Lawrence was locked up in a cold concrete jail cell. He was tired and annoyed at everyone around him.
"Excuse me," Lawrence said to a guard politely. The guard turned around and raised his eyebrows.
"Yes," he said.
"I would like to speak to the police department and I am now okay with them to question me," Lawrence finished. The guard hustled off, quickening his pace as he got closer to the exit. He followed the corridor to the head of department office. He spoke quickly to one of the policemen.
"Lawrence is says he is now ready for questioning."
"Hmmmm yes, good, good. Bring him into the interview room, I'll tell the others."
"Yes, Sir," said the guard, who then proceeded to exit the room. When he reached Lawrence's cell door, he pulled his key out of his pocket, and slid it into the lock. The click of the lock echoed off the walls, a few other criminals turned there heads, interested in the commotion. The guard grabbed Lawrence firmly by the arm and marched him away locked in handcuffs.
When Lawrence entered the interview room there were already three policemen in fancy looking uniform.
"Sit down," the tall one said, in a gruff deep voice.
Lawrence sat and wore a look of nothingness and boredom.
"You said you wanted to speak to us, do you have anything to say?" Said a short police officer with dark hair and tanned, young skin.
"Oh yeah, that," Lawrence said lazily, displaying absolutely no interest. "Well basically I wanted to say, I'm sorry, and I know what I did was wrong and everything and I'll pay back everything I ever took and more,"
"What do you want?" Spat the oldest looking man, he had a look of disgust plastered across his face.
"Okay then, I'll do all this," continued Lawrence, "if you let me out of jail early. Say, in a month?"
The tanned, young policeman spoke, "this will be possible, but you have to agree and sign to a good behaviour bond and also we can only let you out if, and this is a very big 'if', of you tell us where you partner in crime is... Celeste."
"Hmmmmm," mumbled Lawrence, who was deep in thought, "okay..."Hope you enjoy, this is a bit of a longer chapter. xx
