Getting Permission

Dalton's POV

Today I'm going out to lunch with Letti's father. Her birthday is next week and getting back to work at the shop with Bud, I didn't have time to ask him last week once we got back from visiting with Amira. The warden called me two days later and told me that Amira was charged with the crimes of drug trafficking on top of everything else she was initially charged with. Neither myself or Nicolette feel sorry with her. That's her own fault that she was going to frame me for a crime I didn't commit. The last few nights of sleep for Letti were extremely tough. She kept on having insane nightmares as she called them something happening to me when I was in hiding. I assured her that I was safe and nothing bad happened to me. Some nights she slept fine then others not so much. Those few months of us apart took a toll on her mentally. I will be here to help rebuild her mental health back to it being 100%. She deserves nothing but the best and I intend to be that man for her. It's around 10 am and I feel her starting to stir around. As she starts to wake up, my phone rings, it's her father. I sent it to voicemail and grab my phone to text him that Letti just woke up. He responds back saying that lunch needs to happen at 11 instead of 12 because the deputy who was suppose to take over his shift for him, was in a car accident and nobody can come into take over until 1. I promise that it works out just fine. I glance down at my gorgeous girlfriend. She smiles up at me and sits up with me.

~Nicolette~ Good Morning baby...

~Dalton~ Good Morning beautiful. How was your sleep last night?

~Nicolette~ Last night was an incredible night of sleep. Nightmares didn't happen. I felt a lot better than I had other nights. I know it hasn't been easy on you with me waking up crying because you wanted to calm me down.

~Dalton~ Baby I would do it all over again for you. You are my entire life. I would do anything for you and you know that. So if me sitting up with you helps them then that is exactly what I will do, okay?

~Nicolette~ Thank you... Was that my father? Is y'all's lunch still on today?

~Dalton~ Yes he had to move it up from 12 to 11 because one of the deputies was in a car accident and another can't come into work until 1. So I told him that was fine. I will be back around 2 and anything you want to do, we can do it... okay?

~Nicolette~ Sounds good baby. I'm going to work on some paintings today. Relax and get some work down.

~Dalton~ I can't wait to see your latest masterpiece. You need me to grab anything for dinner tonight?

~Nicolette~ Surprise me baby.

I lean in and give her a soft sweet kiss. She touches my beard and smiles as we kiss. This assures me that she is the one I am meant to spend the rest of my life with. She brings out the best of me and that makes me a better person than I was prior to is meeting. I get up and change my clothes.

I head out the door after giving my girl another kiss. I just hope she says yes and her father gives me his permission.

I arrive outside this small diner we agreed on meeting at. I sit down in a booth when this lady walks up to me. Great here we go again. Someone who doesn't take rejection well.

~Nina~ Hey there... You look lonely.

~Dalton~ Well I'm not lonely. I'm waiting for my soon to be father in law to get here so you can leave...

~Nina~ You don't mean that.. I can keep you company...

~Dalton~ Again leave me alone. I am happily taken by the worlds most incredible gorgeous woman. So please leave me.....

~Sheriff~ Is there a problem here, son?

~Dalton~ Nope she was just leaving. She doesn't take the word no too well and she has since decided that she isn't leaving me alone.

~Nina~ He's lying. He asked me to meet him here.

~Sheriff~ I highly doubt it. He and I planned on meeting here for a week. Frankly it appears that you are a professional woman. So unless you want to catch a charge for prostitution then I suggest you and whoever truly sent you here, back off.

~Nina~ Who the hell are you?

~Sheriff~ I'm the sheriff of this town and this is my future son in law... 

She gets up and leaves. I'm almost positive that certain people sent her this way, wouldn't surprise me one bit.

~Sheriff~ So what did you want to talk about with me?

~Dalton~ I know we originally got off on the wrong foot but I'm thankful that it went this way. The more I got to know Nicolette, the more and more I fell for her. She makes everything worth it. When I was forced away from her, I knew when I got back to her with your help, I knew she was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. So with your permission of course can I have her hand in marriage?

~Sheriff~ I will admit it at first, I wasn't thrilled when I saw how she looked at you. I knew she would see the best in you regardless of what I said. When I saw how miserably sad she was when you were gone for those several months, I knew what y'all had was real. When she saw you back after being apart, I could see the stress leave from her. You complete her. So yes you have my permission to marry her.

~Dalton~ Thank you. I'm going to get her ring today before I head home.

~Sheriff~ When do you plan on proposing to her?

~Dalton~ I plan in proposing to her on her birthday. Wanted to take her away to the beach for vacation unless you wanted to be there.

~Sheriff~ No it's perfect. It will mean more to her that it y'all and it's something special you planned for her.

We finish up our lunch and I head out to pick out the perfect ring. She is artsy, simple, but no diamonds. She like unique stones, something she told me when I was able to watch her do one of her earlier paintings. I found the perfect ring. I grab a few steaks and sides to fix for our dinner. Then I will discuss our vacation.

Dinner with her went amazing. We leave in 3 days for our beach vacation together. She is beyond excited. She wants to bring her sketch pad incase she gets any ideas for paintings. I think it's a great idea. I'm bringing a camera because I want to photograph her and give it to her on our wedding day. This is going to be absolutely amazing. Fingers crossed she says yes.
