Never too far away!

Dalton's POV

I moved out of town, about an hour away from Nicolette. I have checked in with Bud by using pay phones. It's always a different one so that way nobody can track me down to where I truly am. He told me the other day that Nicolette is truly struggling without me there. Believe me I wanted to tell her what was going on but I couldn't. If I did he threatened to kill her and put the blame on me. I am not about to have that on me. If Sheriff went to the body shop he probably got copies of the footage. He is going to figure out who did this without me spilling the beans. I need Nicolette in my life. She is my best friend and I am in love with her. When this is done and over with, I am going to marry her. I hope I can and she isn't angry with me too bad. But I know that there is a very big chance she is and may not forgive me. But that is a risk I am willing to take with her at least. Fingers crossed this is over with soon.

Today I am in town eating lunch when I see Sheriff sitting down. He nods at me. He has figured it out. Thank god! I go sit with him.

~Sheriff~ How are you doing son?

~Dalton~ I have been better. I miss her. I didn't want to leave her. He threatened to kill her or kidnap her and he said that I would pay for it.

~Sheriff~ Juan?

~Dalton~ I can't tell you. He will hurt her. He is the mayor's relative.

~Sheriff~ She finished and isn't taking anymore jobs for the mayor. He tried to get her to do more paintings in his mansion but she said she isn't there mentally. I get it. She needs you. She's not doing good. She thought you didn't love her anymore.

~Dalton~ I love her more than I have loved anything in my life. She's it for me.

~Sheriff~ Then let me get back to the city and see if forensics uncovered anything. If you need anything then reach out. This will all be over with soon. I promise this to you.

~Dalton~ Tell her 143. She will know what I mean by this. It's only her. I'm doing this for her safety.

Sheriff gets up and leaves. I finish eating my lunch and I head back to my hotel room. These last few weeks have been absolute hell for all of us that are involved.

Sheriff's POV

Bud told me about him receiving phone calls from pay phones and that they were from Dalton. I pinged the phones to where they were located a few days ago. I didn't have the exact location pinned down until today when I was in town. I thought I saw him but I was right. He can't tell me about who has caused this massive headache but I am pretty sure I know exactly who did it. He lost his mule in Amira and he's making my daughter pay. As I am driving back to the police station, the forensics team has found something. They are sending me over the entire file report. I check on Nicolette and she is okay. I told her 143 and she said really. She knew exactly who it was from. I told her be careful if she answers her phone from weird numbers, it maybe Dalton trying to reach out to her. She said okay she would be.

As I am sitting back at the station, I open my email to read the report on the computer. They were able to get the picture of who forced Dalton's hand in him leaving without telling a soul. I pull up the picture and it was exactly whom I thought it was. Juan wanted to have my daughter miserable and angry with Dalton to be able to push his drugs through out my town. Not happening. Now we need to catch him red handed. We need to catch him distributing drugs because then I can arrest him. I need to get him stating that he made Dalton leave because he threatened Nicolette's life. The mayor is going to be investigated as well. He is up for re-election but he is getting an awful lot of money contributed to his campaign. If this is tied to the drug lord then he is just as guilty if not more. I print the pictures out and put them in the file I opened up regarding this. I make sure I save it to multiple flash drives in case someone tries to remove them. I leave one here just in case someone is watching the station. I'll leave one in my truck and the rest will stay with me. They will not get away with this. Not by a long shot.

As I am finishing up the day, Juan walks into my station. What could he possibly want from me?

~Sheriff~ Yes Juan, what can I do for you?

~Juan~ Stop following me around town..

~Sheriff~ I haven't. I was making sure my daughter was okay. I just got back to work this evening. Again you don't come in here demanding me to do anything especially when you aren't sure of the truth.

~Juan~ I saw you!

~Sheriff~ You yell at me one more time and I will not be nice about it. I will chalk it up to you missing your girlfriend whose in maximum security prison.

~Juan~ Yeah she wouldn't be there if Dalton didn't leave and stayed away from your daughter now wouldn't she?

~Sheriff~ My daughter did nothing. Amira disrespected her. She's lucky Nicolette didn't knock her out. It would of been ruled self defense. So please tell me what my daughter did wrong because it was nothing.

~Juan~ Where is her boyfriend at? She wouldn't want nothing to happen to him....

~Sheriff~ Threatening him now are we? He went out of town for Bud. He's been busy so we haven't spoken to him.

~Juan~ Just let me sell my drugs in your town and I'll give you a cut of the profits. You are on the boarder so I can have drugs sent here daily to feed the fix.

~Sheriff~ (hits the record button on his phone) How has it been working for you lately?

~Juan~ For the last two weeks we haven't made anything and the Mayor is upset....

He realized he admitted to selling drugs and giving some of the profit to the mayor.

~Juan~ You can't use any of that in court!

~Sheriff~ Well you admitted to it willingly after threatening my daughter and Dalton. What did you say to him.....

Juan runs out of the police station. Yeah this is going to be a chase now. But I'll get him I always do!
