Hi! Fluff and honestly some angst?? Was going to be a lot longer than this but I'm lazy, miscommunication trope soz, but a really cute ending !! Enjoy!

Remus was sitting on the couch, watching the tv and gently caressing Sirius' hair. He loved these moments. Sirius snuggled further into him and Remus resisted the urge to lean down and kiss him. When he was with Sirius, Remus felt like he was home. He felt like he had a family. He wanted to make Sirius his family, legally. Okay, maybe not legally because well they couldn't but ... when have they ever once payed attention to rules?

He moved his hands from Sirius' hair and let them trail down so they were resting on his chest. Remus could feel Sirius' heartbeat beneath his fingertips and he smiled. Sirius was loud and impulsive and sometimes arrogant, but he was so sweet and had one of the biggest hearts Remus had ever come across. He wanted to be the one to take care of it for the rest of his life.

"Sirius?" He asked gently, smiling when Sirius intertwined their hands on his chest.

"Yeah?"

Remus wondered how in the world he was going to ask this and not make it incredibly obvious that he wanted to propose. "What do you think about marriage? Like ... would you want to?" Remus cursed at himself in his head, now it definitely sounded like he was going to, "I mean not like to me specifically, just you know ... in general."

Smooth Remus, real smooth.

Sirius hoped Remus couldn't feel how his heartbeat had sped up. Of course Sirius wanted to get married, specifically to Remus. He just couldn't tell his boyfriend that yet because he wanted it to be a surprise when he did. "Well, it's not for me."

Remus tried not to show the disappointment in his voice, "oh? Any particular reason why?"

Sirius had to make this convincing. He imagined being forced to go through with marrying one of his cousins to keep the "noble house of black" blood pure as he spoke, "well, it's like a trap isn't it? How could it be romantic to be legally bound to someone for the rest of your life?"

Remus felt his heart sink down to his stomach. So, proposing was obviously out of the question. He couldn't deny that he was disappointed and maybe even slightly hurt that Sirius wouldn't want to get married to him. Okay, more hurt than he wanted to be.

Sirius furrowed his eyebrows when Remus didn't respond, had he said something? In any case, this was his chance to see how moony felt about marriage.

"What about you? ... do you want to get married?" He asked nervously, sure now that Remus could feel the way his heart sped up.

"Um." Remus bit his lip. Sirius didn't ever want to get married. Who's to say that Sirius won't break up with him once he found out that they wanted two separate things for the future? He could live with being Sirius' boyfriend for the rest of his life. In fact, it was more than that, he would be more than honored. "Not at all. It's not for me either."

Merlin, he hated lying to Sirius.

Sirius could feel the disappointment dragging him down. It was a surprise he hadn't melted into the ground. He only wished he'd had this conversation before he went out and bought the ring. What was he to do now?

"That's good then." He said, ignoring the lump in his throat, "we both want the same thing."

Remus looked away from his boyfriend. "Yeah."

Remus focused on petting Garfield the cat, as he ignored the pitying look that he was sure was on Lily's face. He'd just told her that he wasn't going to be proposing and the embarrassment made him want the ground to swallow him whole.
