I waited for Peter outside the principal's office with Ned.

When he came out Ned shot at him questions. "Are you expelled? Do you have to go to that high school where the principal has a crossbow?"

"Pretty sure that's an urban myth. And no, I'm not expelled." Peter replied.

"You're so lucky." Ned muttered. "I'll see you guys later." He turned away from us.

"I do have a detention after school today and tomorrow." He said to me.

"Do you wanna go to prom?" I said, quickly.

"What?"

"I know it's a bit over the head, but I'm helping Liz arranging it, and I think it will be nice to go. We didn't go on a date yet."

"Umm, yeah, let's do it."

"Really? Because you don't have to."

"If it means I hung out with you, I want to."

I smiled. "Okay. So I'll see you later." I kissed him and walked to my lesson.

I walked down the corridor to the toilets last period. I was helping with some prom stuff. "I just wanted to apologise about the whole decathlon thing." I heard Peter's voice.

"It's fine. Last week, decathlon was the most important thing, but then I almost died." Liz's voice replied.

I stood behind a wall and listened. "No, I'm— I just mean that it was not cool, especially— it was not cool." He paused for a second. "I gotta get to class, so see you around."

"Peter?" She called him.

"Yeah?"

"Are you going to prom?"

Wait what.

"Umm, yeah."

"Wanna go with me?"

WAIT WHAT.

"Umm, I'm going with Amelia."

"Oh, right. Yeah, okay."

"I don't get it, she's your best friend." Peter said confused.

"Doesn't mean she's gonna stand in my way if I like someone. Anyway, I'll see you around."

THAT FUCKING BITCH.

I walked away before she could see me.

I can't believe what I just heard.

I was on my bed when I was on the phone with Peter. "Did you ever got around to realise who that wing guy was?" I asked him.

"No, but I have a face. Look in the glasses."

I put the glasses on. A picture of an adult man popped up.

"Oh, okay. Hey, anything interesting or stupid happened today?"

"No. Why?"

"Not even betrayal by my best friend?"

"Jesus, Ames, how did you hear that?"

"I'm everywhere, Peter. You could have just told me."

"It's not mine to tell."

"What! Yes, it is. Your MY boyfriend. MINE."

"You should talk to her."

"Sure. After I punch her in the face."

"Amelia..."

"Don't. She fucking asked you out, Peter."

"And I said no."

"I'm fine with you. She's the bitch."

"Ames, I beg you."

"Whatever." I hung up.

I took my keys and got into my car.

I drove until Liz's house to talk to her. I knocked on her house. A man in about his fifties opened the door. He looked too familiar.

"Hello. Can I help you?" He asked me.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I must have the wrong house." I said, confused.

"Well, okay then." He closed the door.

I gasped. That man is the wing guy. Liz's dad.

I got in the house trying to get my nerves all right. I took some deep breathes.

Hey, what's your dad's job? I texted Liz.

I don't know, like mechanic or something.
Do you wanna come over pick a dress?

I can't. Family stuff. See you tomorrow.

"Amelia." I heard Mom's voice. I turned to face her. "Are you okay? You look a bit pale."

"Do I? Everything's fine."

"Okay. You're going to prom tomorrow with Peter?"

"Yeah."

"Is that where you were last night?" I nodded. "You didn't pick up all night."

"I was asleep."

"With him?"

"Mom, this is Peter we're talking about!"

"I know. I know."

"Dad made a mistake taking that suit away from him, you know. I gotta go."

I walked upstairs and called Peter. "Hey." He answered.

"Peter, you love me right?"

"Yeah."

"So you'll do what I ask you to do?"

"What is going on, Ames?"

"I need you to take Liz to the prom."

"What! No."

"I know it sounds crazy, but I have a plan."

"A plan? What—"

"Tell her we broke up. Tell her that you wanna take her to the prom."

"Amelia—"

"Peter, I don't like this anymore than you do, okay? But I have a plan. Please, please just do it." I cried the last part.

"Okay."

"Just come find me when you'll get there. I'll explain everything."

"Ames."

"What?"

"I love you."

"I love you too." I hung up the phone.

I sat on the bed with tears. Everything's fine.
